Chris is a good teacher. Have you guys ever thought about doing occasional seminars at the garage? I'd pay to take a 2 hour motorcycle class with Chris teaching. There's a local motorcycle garage/co-op work space near me that does classes. It's like 50 bucks for a 2 hour class on basic maintenance or electronics or carburetors, there's a few different ones to chose from. I signed up for a couple classes next month. I'm curious to see how they are.

@happyness5293 Жыл бұрын
@@journeyofjerry820 on my evo sportster back in the day, it had solid lifters, I used to make the pushrods snug, then back off slightly, spin them to where they spun freely with slight resistance, and tighten the locking nuts, was good to go. That motor was pretty radical, and had no issues with adjusting them that way. Hydraulics have a preload, so I would probably adjust them as I explained, but without compressing the preload. Something that you might want to verify, but that's what I would do, if I were doing the job myself.

Though Josh would never conceive having something in common with me, I also believe an early carb'd twin cam, especially built, is the best sounding Harley to date, of course taste is subjective but being both my Harley's are an 02', after a cam plate upgrade, these are the best engines Harley made, the 88". Cool running, almost square, love to rev, Timken bottom end, forged crank, no leaky base gaskets, weak cases or failing front exhaust lifters. Not to mention, straight cut bulletproof 5 speed tranny. YMMV

Great video guys, thanks. Not being mechanically inclined, I have a quesion. On my 2022 Street Glide ST M8 117ci. HD just did a stage 2 upgrade, but to stay in warranty, they had constraints and cound't do as good a tune as if my warranty was over. I put TAB 4.5" slipons w/Zombie baffles. Redshift 468 cam kit, but Zippers advised "Make sure you keep the CAT head pipe, DO NOT remove the CAT, If there is an option for adding SE wide band sensors skip those, keep the narrow band sensors." End result: DYNOJET Results = 95.57 HP @5.12 RPM, Max Torque 131.01 @3.18 RPM. I thought my HP would be over 100 with the M8 117ci. Wondering what you think? Thanks!

the explanation of the purpose of the pushrod and the cam was fucking masterful. I understood everything even though I have no idea how to take it apart

Grandpa had a shovelhead back in day and Harley sold a specific pan for them because they leaked so bad. Still have that pan. My panhead is just as bad and use a disposable baking pan

i just subscribed, I own a 2018 Softail Deluxe (M8 107 motor) and as chances would have it im awaiting my parts to do a Stage I & Stage II (all Screaming Eagle) and im also upgrading the Lifters, the lifter Cuffs, and a SE High performance Oil Pump and Cam Plate. Also a rear pillian, clear 19” windshield, and a few chrome pieces, (although this bike came stock with a chit load of Chrome) Thats as far as i want to go for now. Very cool that I just came across this video. What i found interesting when ordering the parts, the parts guy spoke with the Service manager cam back told me he ordered everything (take about a week) but said that the service manager said “You dont need The Lifter Cuffs” I said NO….You dont understand, I WANT them replaced, and he sort of argued with me asking repeatedly WHY? I finally said because the ones Harley built this engine with Like with so many other parts Hum lets see Plastic Tran Cover, Insufficient oil pump improperly vented pressure with the blow by issue) and The CUFFS are PLASTIC and are known to TWIST, then the rollers on the bottom of the lifters can rotate…NOT GOOD. His reply…Oh we haven’t heard of THAT happening. I have and will be glad to point you to the many instances, i also dont beLIEve they haven’t heard it.

Awesome! Thanks guys. Informative, fun, and entertaining video. Best I've seen. I have a Road King Stage 1 which is plenty of power for an old fart like me who's been riding for 50+ years now. Interested in stage 2 maybe but is there a trade-off between power and engine reliability/lifespan when you go to stage 2? If the motor is breathing and working that much more (due to more duration and lift of cam), are you in effect shortening its life and reliability on the road for those long cross country trips? (Maybe I think about this too much since I'm 70+ years old.) Any thoughts appreciated.

Great video as usual with outstanding explanations. I have spent thousands on both car and motorcycles engine mods. Engine mods are the most expensive vs let’s say suspension mods. Truthfully, Unless you really spend thousands you may notice better throttle response and that is that. More cost effective to buy the horsepower from the factory. You must go to forced induction to really make serious power. Intakes, headers, exhaust, cams, all effect drivability. It takes a lot of cash to drop 1 sec off 0-60 or quarter mile runs.
