Folks I’ve been on a Harley since 1976, the vibration is because the they run the Primary “LOOSE “ the factory spec 10lbs downward force perpendicular to the chain length that will yield a 3/8-5/8 deflection NO MORE than that! If you ever let it run loose, you must change the primary along with the compensating sprocket assembly! If you don’t change both and try to just adjust it correctly you will have the unfortunate experience of a broken compensating weldment, I’ve seen other folks have that experience, oh I’m not talking out my ass either I’ve wrenched my whole life on Bikes, cars, Aircraft as a A&P, and long haul trucks, and heavy log’n equipment. The reason is when the chain is allowed to run loose, the vibration with the uneven stretch work hardens the compensating sprocket weld joint making it brittle. Plus the primary now has uneven stretch and when it’s tightened correctly, it won’t be long until the compensating sprocket assembly’s failure is now imminent. My 1977 Shovel Head would pulse at idle and run absolutely smooth as running a easy-boy recliner at seventy on a road of smooth glass. Fix it right, maintain it right, it’ll do you right, and it’ll out last you .

Exactly. The “B” will bounce with the profile of the cam minus the buzzy shaking feeling of the “A” at idle. I own both and don’t notice a difference other than that.

You are absolutely correct! The B motor is smooth up until you get around 80mph or like you said 4000rpm. My rubber mounted Ultra is smooth throughout the entire powerband where as my Heritage is fine until I start getting into the higher rpm's. Another great video! Keep'em coming.
@Clammy692 жыл бұрын
Install a Baker DD6, and it'll cruise at 80 mph turning around 3100 RPM. Smooth as butter. 3500 RPM gets you around 90 mph, and it's also smooth. About 3850 RPM RPM brings you to 100mph. It's a bit buzzier, but not that bad for extended cruising time. 😁😁😁 Cheers!

I have an '06 Deluxe with the "B" motor. I didn't really notice that vibration @ 3000 rpm until I put some Andrews 26 cams in. @@getoffmygrass6974 well, AMF also designed the evolution engine. Just imagine if the AMF nova engine would have been put into production. Replacing the rear rubber mounts on the Road King A motor, sucks. The bike got squirly around 90,000 and when I took out the old rubber I could see why. It's kind of frightening to know that systems of rubber is all that holds the rear drive in place. I replaced mine at 92,000 miles and at one point I thought I wouldn't get it done right. I am at 112,000 miles now and it handles well but I would feel safer on a bolted to frame motor; After all this was designed by the same dude that designed Nortons back in 1970

I have a friend that has a 103 A motor he has same cams Dyno tuned and my 96 B almost Dyno nearly the same HP and torque he's just slightly more than me but on the highway I stay right with him. Thank you for this video. My 07 Fatboy has 240000 km on it and I have been doing all the upkeep and maintenance on it for the past 10 years. Always worried about the counter balancer mechanism. Have just replaced the entire top end with new components. So nothing to be concerned with on the counter balance or do I need to get in there for maintenance? Thanks again. Really love your channel. Hope u will continue it.
