Owner of 2017 Triumph Bonneville Street Cup. Black, Silver Ice and gold pinstripes. Removed the chrome gas cap, chrome front steering nut and brushed aluminum front shock tubes cover nuts. Replaced them with brass parts form Motone Customs. ( Note: Black Billet turn signals like Penny's you did 5 years ago on her Triumph ) The fuel cap I have is called "Infinity" model. Circles on the top similar to what you made today. You may want to look at the fuel cap for your project. Bike is looking amazing. Take care, Ride Safe.

I can't disagree David, i used what i had in stock while it was just a first attempt, and that was 1.5mm sheet, so i was limited to how deep i could cut.. but i think with some 6mm plate, and a curved cutting tool ill make myself, the 2.0 version will be ten times better..! learnt a new skill today though, and happy it went well so far !

Sorry, but I don't think that looks good at all. If you engraved your logo on it, high gloss polish, that would be a piece you could be proud to display. But that... just no. The shiny 'corroded' piece in the beginning looks better.

Just a thought Del, but how will you deal with brass tarnishing with the satin finish? Would it have been better to clear coat it before fixing to preserve the nice finish?

Interesting… I always use heat gun to soften up the glue, get something off. Getting more interesting getting super glue which thought more permanent, proof can be done. Pretty Kwel!! Totally agree Dave, I don't like it much in it's polished form as it does tarnish badly, but once it's bead baslted it never goes darker than a rich satin gold, even in the weather... don't know the physics of that works, but it works! There will be a few more brass parts like this on the bike, matching in with the hold chain, so am glad you approve!

Thanks Joe, coming from you sir, that is praise indeed, you know me, total novice on machining, at the good grace of people like yourself and Chris at Clickspring, I'm learning all the time... next time I'll re-make this from thicker material for some deeper grooves, maybe get a little more creative and I'll grind a specific tool for cutting the grooves with a steeper relief underneath it... cutting a flat surface seems to need a special tool, compared to cutting a bar... like I said, through this I learned a lot today! I used to wrap a spare key in a bit of shop rag and keep it in the cavity behind that cover. My cavity looked a bit deeper, though, and mounted with screws (2005 Sportster Custom).

Congratulations on giving it a go on something new. My skills in these facets of workshops and DIY would have been limited to angle grinder, a Dremel tool and doing something ghastly to the original piece!!

For instant adhesion, use an accelerator on the brass, and superglue on the aluminium. Even better is 3M double-sided tape, sticks like the proverbial to a blanket.

Great ta see ya doing well del after the other thing a few months back, I don't know if you remember me talking to you before, since 2018,we lost are 25 year business, 8 months later we lost my father,in the middle of the first lock down in the UK had to put are family home of 42 years up for sale, move to Ireland and layed my father to rest,with that, the only fella that I came out of the bedroom after my dad passing was the guy who made me and my brother bike crazy since we were todlers,well....² weeks ago that man...èion sadly passed after a battle with diabetes. He was my absolute idol,the calmest, nicest soul that you could ever meet,it was an honour to lead the gaurd of honour. Del.ive watch ya vids for so long now ....you honestly àre part of à good side of my life.cheers for everything you and penny have done over the years 👍

Of course we remember you, and how nice to her from you again, and of course we are so sorry to hear about your losses, it seems you've been through a terrible turmoil over the last few years, sometimes life can deal you a rough hand and it's how you play that hand that makes the difference. It's wonderful that you remember the good times and the good things from your experiences, because those are all that matter... there's enough negativity in the world without having to focus on it. Yes, had a little health scare a year ago, but making a meaningful recovery now, lots of meds, and will be for life, but there are plenty of people who have it far harder than me and some who are not even here... I love how you put the lathe chuck key away it its proper location every time. I usually just leave it in the chuck so it can be hurled violently at my face everytime I turn the lathe on. It keeps me on my toes. Honestly you would think that would be a mistake you only make once but apparently I'm a slow learner. Anyway great video as always my friend.

Hey buddy, in all seriousness, that's a huge danger and not even worth joking about, people have been blinded, or even killed, by chuck keys... I've conditioned myself to be paranoid about it, but can I maybe suggest, that if you do tend to forget, then perhaps think about getting a spring loaded one so it jumps out the chuck hole unless you're pressing down on it... they're impossible to leave in the chuck and if it's something you're doing, even now and again by mistake, it could save your life mate... good luck and thanks for sharing, be safe brother!

Me too Alan, but unfortunately that finish goes tarnished very quickly and in the weather will end up dark brown and mottled, but the media blasted finish just goes slightly darker over time and stays a nice dull gold colour and never gets any worse... and as it's riveted I don't want to be removing it every now and again to remove it! I'm learning all the time and hope to move to clocks full time by next summer/autumn. When I get time and spare money I hope to modify and build a custom bike and since deciding a clock making theme, the ideas are flowing, thanks for your inspiration in that department 😀👍

I've learnt so much about the sportster from you Dell, it has such a long history going back as far as k series which I believe was a quad cam engine in 52, with the xl arriving in 57.

Hi Raymond, I feel your pain buddy, tyres never last long enough and they're never cheap!... The only tyres I've ever found to truly deliver for a heavy distance bike is on my old Goldwing, and they have a specially formulated Bridgestone Battlax made and developed solely for Goldwings with a heavier side wall and tough wearing tread for their silly weight! Not suggesting these for your bike, but it's where I got them from, I took the advice of a friend of mine who's a mobile tyre fitter, he suggested them, then supplied and came and fitted them and they've truly been the best decision ever... so if you check him out on Facebook, his name's Lee and he is 'EMJ Bike Tyres', he'll give you the best advice on the right tyres for your bike, he knows what he's talking about as he builds race bikes too... so follow his guidance and see if he can do you a deal mate (oh and tell him I said Hi!)... good luck, let us know how you get on!
