Very good comparison video Brother! About the same cons/pros for these as it was for the green laser baldr mini and TLR-7. My 2 cents...both are great lights and if whatever brand is what u know and it checks all the boxes for u, then stick with it. Me being a Marine Corps Force Recon veteran during the Persian gulf war years in the early - mid 90's, I get it, u want something "battle proven" like Streamlight/Surefire products and I dont blame you in that regard. But think about this for a moment, something can't get to be "battle proven" unless u use it right?! Streamlight/Surefire didn't start out that way, so I say give a new product a chance at least. A very low % of us are out on patrol looking for terrorists or clearing villages house to house. And before someone says "well what about law enforcement"? I got you covered on that one too...I'm currently a 23 year sheriff's deputy that has worked the midnight shift my entire career (so I use a flashlight EVERYDAY) and when I 1st started we were issued the (3) C cell battery maglight flashlights (remember those) then a few years later, I upgraded to the rechargeable streamlight stingers as my duty light ($150 back in 99'). Used that for about 13 years (went through about 6 of em cuz the battery would die out and not recharge after bout a year and a half - 2 years and u couldnt buy just a replacement battery. Then in 2016 I discovered the Olight R50 and man did that change my flashlight life. Brightest light I ever seen at 3000 lumens and micro usb rechargeable, man that light was (and still is) great! Then when Olight came out with the seeker 2 pro, man forget about it I was hooked! Fast forward to 2018 when Olight came out with the PL Pro valkyrie WML and that became (and still is) my light on my Glock 34 duty gun. I also carry a Glock 19 as my secondary gun concealed on my vest with a baldr mini green laser light (since it came out Aug. last year) and neither has ever failed me. When the warrior X turbo light came out, that went on my vest as well and I use that on my part time overnight security job at a construction site and it's a beast! Where I work is a warehouse building that is literally over 2 city blocks long on each side and that light goes from one end to the other! I'm NOT affiliated with Olight in any way, I'm just a very satisfied customer of the their products and I just can't go back to changing batteries every week or forgetting to bring (and sometimes misplacing) the big chargers of the other brands. Not to mention (as Harley stated) THE COST comparison! I currently rotate my off duty concealed carry between a Glock 43x, Canik TP9 elite SC and a Glock 26, all with a Baldr mini mounted on them, and I use a Warrior mini (in camouflage color of course) as my EDC light. Just think, as the technology evolves, so do we have to evolve as well. 30 years ago my main source of communication equipment was a beeper, Hardly anyone could afford to have a cell phones unless you were a Dr. or drug dealer. Now my 7 & 8 year old daughters have their own phones! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BROTHER, I look forward to your next video!!! Sorry if I'm too long winded here, I just thought this needed to be said😀😁

I think some people forgot something important, let’s say you’re in a scenario where you need light, you never want to point your firearm in the open and accidentally aim your gun at someone you couldn’t see just for light… I went with the olight because you can leave the bracket on the firearm and just take the light on and off of the gun within a second, talk about a clutch light for real world issues

Great review, but failed to mentioned the TLR-8 STROB function that Olight does not offer. Strobe can be selectable by a double tap whenever a Lamp mode is selectable and again turned off with a double tap. I’m not a real fan of the strobe, but it’s there. I do own both, TLR-8 (red) and the Olight Baldar Mini of course green. I like the tac-switch on the Mini, no 2-finger ops while ON as with TLR. I have a Wertz M6 and M7 holsters for the G19 and Baldar and charge while holstered (M6). Also, at times, run the larger Baldar 2RL with 1200 Lumens and Red Laser with another Wertz Holster M7. I love both, too bad only one G19.

I just picked up the green laser version. So far, I like it. I haven't tried the Streamlight, but do have a Viridian C5L and like it - but the light is underpowered (except in small rooms). While I have only zeroed it in and tested the power, I've found that the light doesn't overpower the laser - even in small, white rooms. It's perfect for my extremely light duty, and if it holds up for a while, I'll buy a few more of them for the rest of my pistols. Thanks for the honest and transparent review.

There are good aspects and bad aspects in either manufacturer's product design. Axiomatically, it's always better to have an immediately replaceable battery (which can also be rechargeable), than a non-replaceable battery... provided you carry a spare, in a waterproof holder on a key ring, or in a jean watch-holder pocket, or in your car... all of which I do. Frankly, I prefer OLight. That said, because of battery design, my EDC CCW CZ-P-01 carries the Streamlight TLR -8 - immediately replaceable battery.

I went cheap on my g45/black 19x clone and purchased the baldr S with green light and magnetic charging. Supposedly produces 650 lumen (don’t know candela spec), on sale for $95. That said, it is a great night stand tool. I am building the ultimate ccw and having a Holosun optic on it, I am going with the newer tlr-7 sub and skipping the laser. 43x mos with smith ground mos nubs to direct mount my “mailbox” eps carry mrs (red). S-15 mags and metal mag release. Maritime cups, and Johnny Glocks combat trigger system. Ameriglo orange biolume square with green tritium front, serrated dual green tritium ameriglo rear. The whole 'would you trust your life to a (Chinese) Olight' is a bit ironic. Streamlight is US based, but its components are Chinese manufactured. The biggest knock on Olight is the Baldr compact lights are USB recharge only where Streamlight pistol weapon lights typically use CR123 throw-aways. I have a couple Baldr-S units that are fine for home defense, and IMO, the Olight Baldr-S has better switches and mode selection than the Streamlight. In the field, I prefer a Cloud Defense MCH with a Thyrm Switchback more than any compact pistol light. It has way more power and throw and can be used by itself as well as with a weapon.

Had a Baldr on my nightstand P229, but the battery life was pretty poor - and no indicator on the light of charge status. Even on a nightstand gun, when you hear a bump in the night you don't have the chance to yell "Wait just a minute - need to charge!" If you plan to check your charge at least weekly (maybe daily would be better - after using it a year or so, it would only hold a charge a couple of days), for economy go with Olight. If you need to bet your life on it (any time you put a gun in your hand and go looking for a strange sound, you do), get a light with a swappable battery. On a carry gun, not even a question. Currently running a TLR 8.

I don't mind the bit more weight on the front, I think it helps with recoil, I've tried shooting with and without, and my return to target is faster with it clipped on. As far as light intensity, I don't want a super bright light for indoor defense, too many white walls, glass, and mirrored surfaces can highlight your location, and possibly even blind you momentarily should get turn it on in the wrong direction. 600L is about max what I'd want, since it has more use outside as well. I would likely not turn the light to the on position, but instead flash, shoot, move, until it's safe, or clear, then use it in the on position. with 600L, that's enough to blind someone in the dark when flashed at them, and give you enough time to locate, ID, decide to act, or not(if family, pet, etc.) and react, or not.

I'm going Olight Baldr simply based off of most bang for your buck. I'm admittedly a Olight fan boy so take that for what it is lol. The way I see it is I have 3 wml's from Olight. Between the 3 they have thousands of rounds fired through them without a single hiccup. Now I'm not an operator nor do I try and pretend to be one on my channel so my lights have been taken good care of and aren't beaten to death. For probably 98% of shooters out there I say Olights are more then adequate for protecting yourself and loved ones. Great comparison video brother!

Had the Streamlight for about a week now and really like it. I originally thought I was going with the olight because of the charging ability more than anything but in the end it was worth it for a made in USA product but it was a very tough call in the end. Im cool with paying a premium for made in America but dont want to feel gouged doing it. The stream light at almost 3X the cost kind of made me feel that way. Even though Im happy with it $189 -$199 would have been a much better price point. The other thing that urks me is why they put the laser below the light...If they had reversed that the laser would have been much closer to the barrel resulting in more accuracy when not shooting at your zeroed distance.

@@bigmacfullerton7870yes you are correct a lot of the models are made in China so be carful, but the more premium line is still made in USA you do have to be careful though and make sure you research it to make sure if thats important to you. Im pretty sure all the TLR line is their USA (but dont trust that 100% double check before ordering) I have TLR-7a, TLR-8ag, and TLR-RM-G that were all made in US at time of purchase. Had I paid 3x thinking I was getting USA and got China I would be pissed and Streamlight could change anytime so DO NOT ASSUME my words to be true down the road. So far they have all been great. If it comes down to a china made olight and a china made streamlight for 2-3x the cost one day I will be trying the olight. I will also say I have 2 china made (light only) lights on a couple AR's because I like the profile of them and they the way they tuck into/under the picatinny and are almost not there. And they have also been great but they are lights only not sure I would trust the laser version to hold zero. Best of luck

I own several Olights but the ones I seem to have the most concerns over the TLR-8 and the TLR-8G (prefer to run) is the movable track system on the Baldr Mini esp when I mount it to my G19 or G23. There is a substantial track slide back to my trigger guard. Being so, I notice a lot of movement when I actuate the push-down switches in my laser beam, as seen through my Optic, causing the laser to go off my center and it stays there. On the slide recycle, the laser then falls back onto my Optic center. I’ve tried to tighten the snap screw on the OLIGHT but doesn’t change that problem. Although I do own and run the larger Olights, without the slide Track, I do love them and they all run on CR123 batteries as well. Overall, I prefer to run my TLRs over the Mini as they, to me, are far more stable on my platforms.

Thats a very small wire connection and thats where the rubber meets the road. Olight has nice features but no cop or agent is gonna use that for duty. Surefire is now in china, its the design not the country. Streamlight for the win.

Had a tlr 8 for almost a year. Just last month as I was taking my edc apart for cleaning I accidently dropped it and realized how cheap the back plastic was. A good chunk of the back cover cracked off only at a 4ft drop. Decided to purchase a olight balrdr mini, and have had no regrets whatsoever. I even did a drop test and it held up very well. I just don't understand why we still make that cheap plastic shit and prize it at the value it's at just because it's made here in the states. I'll agree with one of the comments here, not everything made here is 100% perfect with no failure. I'm sure that stream light has a lot of their parts manufactured from China and elsewhere they just assemble it here.

Both of my BALDR Minis will shift from simply holstering/unholstering...I can get them to shift with light finger pressure from either side as well. ESPECIALLY when mounted to polyframe pistols. @@HarleyWood23 That was my thought as well... But both lights have this issue, with both the GL and 1913 inserts, and on metal and poly frame pistols of multiple brands. Neither light tightens enough regardless. Also they are several thousand #'s apart via the serial #'s. I have heard that it seems to be hit and miss for this problem. I have not heard anything negative about holding up to abuse, so that is good. I have relegated them to nightstand duty, so to speak. Good across a room for DSM. I may try taking the lever screw out, running the threaded end over a 2500 stone twice...repeat if needed.

I would never trust them for anything more than 5-7 yard DCM shots. They shift too much. Unfortunate, because I do like them otherwise, though NOT using the same charging cables as their other lights is rather lame. Another reason why I will not have them on a carry gun. Having to keep another cable when traveling...not so much. All in all, I think Olight is on to something with the basic design. Edit- Oops, put S instead of C in DCM.

God gave us hands, tons of operators block a rail mounted lamp at times with their loose hand. In a battle, your hands, fingers get worn out from getting banged, scraped, etc, and it will cause that area to be sore. When fingers are sore, fumbling with lil switches, are minimized, and operators at times will use a loose hand to block a light, and again these are measures done momentarily.

Nice presentation. I'd say real world, notta lotta diff between the two, comes down to fit on your particular bullet launcher and rechargeable v. battery. All other things being equal, I'd rather buy American, but sometimes the price difference is the difference between being able to buy it at all. If something Murican was, say, another 10%, okay, but when it's two, three, five times as much (I'm lookin' at you, Red Wing Shoes), that's painful. FYI at this writing Olight has a sale coming up, starting 8/8/23, the mini w/green laser will be $88. Jes sayin.
@afbigfish1
@afbigfish1 9 ай бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. Im torn between these two for the wifes S&W ez in green laser. I really like the rechargeability on the olight. especially since its a laser too and she will be using it a lot more than if it was just a light. I can see a lot of battery purchases. I run a TLR-7 on my p320 and since its just a light and rarely gets used IM not worried about keeping a bunch of spare batteries around. I happen to think the stream light looks better mounted on the ez. However the only reason I would consider the stream light over the olight is the USA vs China. It doesn't really matter if the olight is still just as durable the fact its china made is a big fat negative to me. However, I cant ignore the price either the TLR-8ag is $253 and the green mini is $88 that's almost 3X the cost. That's a tough pill to swallow. if it was 100 vs 150 or even 175 I would go stream light for sure even without the magnetic recharging. However $88 vs $253 and no recharging is really F'ing with me.

The only thing I wish that Olight would of done differently with this light is to make it compatible with the same magnetic charger their other lights use. I'm a platinum tier member and my only grip about Olight is in order to charge their lights you need two different magnetic chargers, a micro USB, and a USB C. I wish they would just use either all one magnetic charger or USB C. God bless and stay safe.

In the long run, that battery in the Olight isn't going to last, and it's not designed to be replaced. Parasitic drain is also pretty bad on an already somewhat low-capacity battery, making this light less reliable than I think it should be. It can't even hold its maximum brightness for more than a few minutes. This is based on the testing and experience of others, but it is also consistent with my own experience with related products. In other respects, it seems to do fine. Whether a more reliable light that will have a longer overall service life is worth twice the money is up to you to decide. From my point of view, if I go with the StreamLight TLR-8 instead, I will only get hurt once when I pay for it. Then I get longer service life, greater battery capacity (more light if/when I need it), replaceable battery (LiMn primaries instead of a rechargeable LiPo, it should be noted), less maintenance, better reliability, and greater peace of mind. If you're confident in the Baldr, then its price point is certainly very appealing, and it might work out well for you. I just personally feel better about the TLR-8.
