My dad lovingly nurtured a spiderplant for nearly 30 years. It began as a seed, which I germinated in a wet paper towel tucked into a ziplock bag, then planted it in a little red solo cup as part of my second-grade science curriculum (thank you Mrs. Ososkie). I excitedly gave it to my dad as a Father's day gift just a few weeks later. It was extra important because it was the first Father's day since he and my mom separated. About three decades later, my dad propagated two plants from that mother plant and had my son and nephew hand paint two little pots. He grew them in secret for a couple of months until he handed them over to the boys to surprise my sister and I for Mother's day. He passed a year and six days ago today. That plant represents to me the unconditional love and patience he bestowed upon those he loved. I will do the same as he did and pass on the plant to my children through my grandchildren. It's extrodinary how much one little seed and a lot of love can impact the future. ❤❤❤

I find this do funny. At school in year 2 i believe - we learned how to propagate a spider plant. Technically it was my first ever plant (yes, i was 7 or 8) 😂. I got into fruit trees after that. Gifting plants and trees to people at the age of 10. So yes, the spider plant started it all. It's the easiest plant on earth to propagate 😂.

What You are doing regarding your Spider Plants is Beautiful, Amazing and Sad. Your Daddy's Gift to you many years ago will Never Be Forgotten. As you said through your Children and Grandchildren. This may sound Silly, or Not. Have you thought of writing a Journal of when your Daddy first gave to you the Spider Plant Seed? Your Children could add to your Journal, then their Children, so on and so forth. My Daddy Past Away at 03:10am today. I was 22 years old. He Never saw me Graduate, which was like him Dying all over again. I have just passed 61years of age and are terminally ill with Multiple Sclerosis. I am only saying this simply to say the obvious. We are only on this Beautiful Planet for a Very Short Time. When Your Daddy gave you that Spider Plant Seed, it is very much treasured and Priceless and will continue on and on. Now That is Beautiful. My, A Stranger's Love To You And All Your Family. 📕

Thank you for an interesting video as always Harli. You know another way of propagating I found is to put the baby spider plant in a small prepared pot. Put the baby in it but don't cut it off the mother plant. After a few weeks you'll find the roots have taken very well, then you cut it off the mother plant.

I have a new emerald green one, no variegation which I love (my first houseplant ever). It came with a small flower stem already and in only 3 weeks it grew 5x the size and has about 6 babies and a TON of flowers. Still waiting (impatiently) for the babies to form roots. Now I found 3 or 4 more flower stems starting to grow! This thing grows SO fast and I'm going to have way too many babies haha. Can't wait to prop the babies and give them away as gifts. :) I've heard the non-variegated ones can actually make variegated babies, but I hope most of them come out the same as the mama cuz that's why I bought her. Her name is Tallulah btw :p

10:21 Speaking of seeds, today I planted the 11 or so seeds I got from a single pod on one of my 3 spider plants :) No idea how the flower was pollinated but probably either accidental brushing or an insect such as a fly or moth came indoors and did it. Very excited to hopefully get seedlings. They likely _won’t_ be variegated unlike the parent plant and offshoot babies, because the variegation is a mutation propagated only asexually so they don’t inherit it. They’ll probably be all completely green, like the wild plants!

After I do that I end up with one meter long stem that ends with nothing, since I cut off the offspring. Should I leave it like that? Or cut it off as close as possible to where it begins?

Maybe my spider plant are weird but the ones i have that look exactly the same and they do perfectly fine in direct sun for like 6hs in summer, also they they are extremely hardy to drying out because they grow these thicker roots that are full of water, even it they eventually wilt from extreme neglect they bounce back really fast. Honestly in my experience these things can do well in really humid soil, dry soil, hot and cold climates(not sure about snow),full sun and even no sun as long as they get good indirect light.
