Hey Harli, I really appreciate these long-term and start to finish videos you've been making. It's really helpful to get an idea of what the whole process looks like for things like prop boxes. Hey, I never thought the internodal spacing was a big deal either until I saw a video where I guy left a lot of internodal spacing on one cut and just a little bit of internodal spacing on another cut and the growth ended up being different. the growth on the longer internodal spacing was bigger! So now I leave a little bit more stem than I used to. Might be a good idea for a video for you? Maybe take a few cuttings with different lengths on the internal spacing and compare the growth? I don't know, this is just a thought that I wanted to pass along to you!

Amazing video as always! Both informative and entertaining. Two future video suggestions, would you make a video on transferring a plant from a sp. moss propagation to soil? I've heard sphagnum retains too much moisture in a soil mix, but also the moss is interwoven with the roots so you risk breakage. As well, I think it would be a fun idea to make a time lapse of one of your grow bins, probably best with your fastest growing varieties, just slowly watching the plant grow and grow.

Oh Harli, I love you, I could watch anything you post, even if it's you making breakfast lol @Harli and everyone I got a very well rooted Thai Constellation stem cutting that was taken directly from soil the other day and I know how finicky they can be, I dont do well with Monsteras in general, they always get root rot in my care... But the Thai was a trade and it got great genes and potential. Soo.... I put it in a bucket and filled it loosely with moss, didn't cover the stem where a new eye is, tho. Rooting powder, keiki paste, the whole nine yards. Put a lil cling film foil (god forbid I remember the American word for it) on top, just slightly and put the whole thing under a strong grow light. NOW.... This is my first Thai, I feel like this is the big exam after years of studying plants. I usually do great with moss + foil + grow light. HOWEVER this plant is known to be difficult and expensive and I am so scared it will get root rot. It already had some after the transfer from soil to water for a few days. The stem is doing great, very dry, hard, no problem. But the roots keep me up at night lol If you - Harli - or anyone else got additional tips or would like to share their experience, please do so :) What could I do if root rot happens in moss? Cut the rotten parts and let the roots dry before putting them back into moss? Cinnamon? I'll take any oh so tiny tip you got XD

@sarahinthesun12
@sarahinthesun12 Жыл бұрын
@@candicepetty1179 I always cut between each node, and I put a few in a small cup, depending on the size. You can stuff as many as you’d like in but once the roots start growing, they might need something bigger. If you’ve never propped before, I suggest starting in just water, especially with something like cebu (they’re easy to root in water) and you can get the hang of it better. It took me a while to get sphag propping on point because it reeeeally matters how wet/not wet the moss is. It takes some practice, and water propping is still what I use to prop most things with. Hope that helps!

My first propagation box grew fluffy mould on the moss and also on the ends of cuttings. The moss wasn't too wet and also I aerated the box every day for a few minutes. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening in the future?

You can try spraying some anti fungal.

This is a great video! I’ll be starting a box soon! Is there a limit on how long you can use the spagnum moss for? As in does it go bad if that makes sense

I’ve never noticed a point where it has gone bad, other than if I allow it to stay wet too long & it turns to mush

I’ve done a prop box in the past with more common houseplants. However, recently I’ve started buying more Hoya, do you think Hoyas will perform well in the box setup?

Yes! I love propping Hoya this way

I have tried few times with the sphagnum but everything always end up rotting on me. What happens to all the extra water I see in the bottom of the bin do you dump it out? I am in Texas so humidity is high and temperatures are around 100 so is it better to not keep them in direct sun and more away from the window? You just pour water randomly on plants and not into each individual cups? I also poked holes in my cups but still no luck. I want so badly to succeed at the sphagnum moss propagation method so will try 1 more time, the mosquito bits always end up molding is that ok? Thank you for the step by step, wish me luck again lol

I mixed spangham moss and miracle grow moss together... now I'm thinking there wont be enough air flow?? Have you ever done that. The MG is more like compost seeming than moss but I hated to waste it so mixed it in!

Hi Harli, I live in Denmark. I would love to get my hands on the spagnum moss you are using, but it is not possible to buy here i DK. I can only get the moss for reptile aquariums and I tried it - it is no good. It can be imported of course, but that will be expensive. Thank you for making the videos ♥

Hey! Darn! I will look into trying some alternatives & get back to you on something I've found that works equally well.

Hi Harli, what is the Liquidirt/water ratio you use - I notice it's a lot lighter in color than what the instructions call for. Thanks so much!

Hey! I mix it according to the package. So I add a capful to a gallon of water & then add some from that gallon into another gallon, which is what I use to actually water from

Hi Harli, I'm not sure as to when exactly are the cuttings ready for soil. And also, do they not need an acclimation period? They will be removed from this high humidity environment. And also, can this process be done with ryzhomes?
@HarliG
@HarliG 2 жыл бұрын
I kind of touched on the acclimation thing! I actually don't move them gradually, I just make sure to keep the plant substrate moistened & out of direct sunlight for a while once it has been moved to regular home environment. I've never had an issue with the plant doing weird things when being moved from the bins. Of course, plants like beognia or other very delicate ones may take issue. It kind of depends on the plant type. As for when they're ready for soil, I have a previous video on my channel with more info on that! I tend to wait for a new growth point to pop & then that's when I will repot them.

@@HarliG Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I'm familiar with the other video, must've watched it like 5 times. Inspired by you, I started propagating via bins, and I'm really happy. Thanks for all your content!
