This is a good experience to ride a pony who is green and just starting. And he went really well for you. His canter is beautiful.

@ it looked like a snaffle to me I will look again. Even so no equipment is wrong if it is used by the right rider and this horse is being trained by a professional. Everything is a tool. That pony was going very nicely particularly in canter he then relaxed and moved through all his paces well. If he was distressed or at all uncomfortable he would be bouncing off the walls and dumping Harlow. He looked a very happy willing pony to me, were we watching the same clip?

@ if you look it has three different rings on it and it’s not a good piece of equipment for any horse especially baby’s. I love Harlow but three ring gags or any gags are the WORST and the he’s also btv which def needs to stop and a looser martingale would help with that poor posture. Another thing is the saddle it’s putting Harlow in a chair seat so she’s sitting too far back from that and is very uncomfortable for the rider.

@ I had a good look I think you are correct but it’s not the gag in the true sense which in my day ran from the side piece of the bridle through the rings as part of the reins. I have seen the 3 ring snaffles used with young horses starting out though and they went well with them. It’s essentially just a version of the snaffle and it must have suited him for whatever reason. Perhaps this one is designed to reduce the risk of pinching. I do agree the martingale is tight though but it will only come into effect if the horse throws its head around. I used one myself with a young backed horse to start with. I think we have to consider this trainer gets results and produces a high end product, in a short space of time. Maybe it’s not what you would use or I would use or even Harlow would use as a mouthpiece but the pony did not seem uncomfortable or opened him mouth or other resistance so it works for him and his professional trainer who is producing a safe to ride pony in a matter of weeks.
