Thanks for the compliments man, I appreciate that. I definitely want to encourage you to write and post your own riffs as opposed to covers. Covers are great but it's awesome to see folks writing and posting their own music man!

Only thing I can think of is your mic may be picking up noise or music from your headphones (so if you pan a track left, when you go to record the right track your mic may be picking up a little of your headphones which will contain a little of that panned left track). Hopefully that makes sense. I record my guitar direct (POD HD500). Same with bass.

Jason, thanks for the lesson and thanks for the humor! I've played guitar for 32 years and a good laugh with my metal is always appreciated! Bill

I render them from the great beast or Mordor. Kidding man...they're actually studio-recorded drum loops from Beta Monkey's Double Bass Mania series (look up Double Bass Mania on my KZbin channel as I have a vid on this). I'm pretty happy with these quality-wise. You're somewhat limited to the loops on creativity but you get over 1,000 loops for each package so you can make them work.

Thanks man! I'll possibly be playing TSO's Christmas Canon Rock with a friend for our school choir Christmas concert and with the teacher wanting me to play the harmony a 3rd above the melody, this video really helped me fully understand what I need to do in order to make it sound awesome! Thanks again, you're a great teacher, ROCK ON!!

OMG Jason thank you so much for this, talk about a rush. So I listened to your explanation went up 3 notes and played along with the backing track, wow it sounded AWESOME so mkuch fun. I listen to a lot of Thn Lizzy lately and Iam jus fascinated by Robbo's and Scott's guitar work. The best thing about this vid is how easy you made it. I can't thank you enough.

Hi Jason love the way you play metal. Greetings from India. Please advise how you hit the string a so hard while keeping your wrist relaxed. when I try playing rhythm guitar hitting the strings hard causes cramps in my forearms

Jason you seem like a really cool guy. I'm a a young scrawny reject school kid and guitar is the best thing I have ever played in my life nothing else compares the feeling I get when I play guitar, I'm trying to get my brother (currently in my band) to harmonize riffs with me instead of just playing rhythm. So thanks a lot for this greatly explained video. Stay brutally Metal. \m/
@jasonstallworth8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words brother. I was extremely scrawny in my younger years (and got picked on a lot) and wasn't good at much. So I can totally relate to you - metal is our passion and our world, so definitely keep doing what you're doing!

Love your riffs, they're exactly my taste. I have 4 questions for you: (1) You played 3 notes up in this example. You also mentioned 5th and 7th notes would work. Are these the only intervals that sound good? (2) Do you move 3 notes up for EVERY note in the key, or just play the same shape 3 notes up from the root? (3) Does the same theory go for major keys? (4) What kind of guitar effects and amp are you running here? Thanks much! \m/
@jasonstallworth11 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The best way is to record the melody and then play a 2nd guitar along with it. There's no correct or better way as long as it sounds good to you. IN other words you may use 5th notes and switch to 3rds or 7ths in the middle. I don't really count off each note. I just play the harmony for what sounds good to me. Amp/effects: HD500
@andrewlowden32210 жыл бұрын
***** thanks man, I hadn't even thought of it being in the same key and the descents and ascents were only in the same key notes! I had tried transposing the riffs up 3, so it was changing the I was playing in! (Ie on this the high I WOULD have tried would be 10-8-6-5 and not the same key of 10-9-7-5 with the inter being 7-8. SO much easier!) Thanks man!

Those r the 4th n 5th string. The 2nd would be the B n the 4th would be the G
