Exactly. If you don't want reporters to hear what's said in the clubhouse, close the clubhouse until you're ready.

As a professional reported you know what shouldn't leave the room.....even if you hear it. You have privileged access to all these secrets, you are expected to know better than to report something that can be used as bulletin board material for the other team. If this was said in response to a direct question you asked then it would be fair game. This was nothing more than celebration and comradery not spoken to a reporter. Something that was never meant to be heard or reported outside of the locker room.
@dougburbank6410 Жыл бұрын
Jake Mintz, one of the reporters who made this public, brought this up on his podcast. Basic etiquette seems to if it's a private conversations between a small group of players, reporters won't report it. If a player specifically asks for something not to go on the record, they won't report it. Sounds like Arcia said this to the room and didn't ask for it to be off the record. Like you said, sounds like Mintz was doing his job.

This is what all “petty drama” should be and how it should work out. This is how men work out their differences, not little boys. Harper surely knew it was harmless shit talking, but that shit still stings, and he knew what to do with it. He answered with two home runs. (He might have overdid the staredown a little, but maybe that’s part of the drama or part of the petty, idk.) Bench clearing grabfanny just gets old, too. The greats take their anger and frustration and channel it down to the baseball, not even the ball, but a small patch where the bat contacts the ball. All that emotion goes into a 1-inch radius piece of leather and propels the baseball into the stands. Petty or not, this is the real drama of baseball. This is what makes it so fun and exciting to watch.
@MarcosElMalo2 Жыл бұрын
@@LordBurgerThat’s a good way of putting it, finding an extra gear. They don’t waste it, they use it. It’s like they take whatever negative emotions they’re feeling and channel them constructively by putting all the feelings onto a 2.9” spherical object and then knocking the snot out of it.

Harper proceeds to find his way to third base and eventually steals home. When interviewed about the incident, Cole Hamels breaks protocol about it and says 'Yea I threw at him' ' He stole home on us so I guess we're even'. Up until this new comment by Harper, that was one of the most cold-blooded comments I've ever seen in an interview. lol. It earned Hamels a 4 game suspension. LOL.

Once, I was hauling some used turface to a dumpsite when Orlando was pulling into the stadium and passed me. He was nice, waved back and said hey out the window which was cool because he was starting to get called up at that point. Lately, with him becoming this sort of villain in everyones eyes I feel the need to stick up and say he's a stand up guy who's earned his spot and become a starting all star, is loved by the league for his demeanor on the field, and if you think he isn't going to come back next season ready to tear up a baseball under pressure, then buena suerte 🤙

@@JessBeautyJunkie Vlad folds like a cheap suit when the high-pressure postseason moments come. Bryce is as clutch as it gets. They are opposites so far, but I hope that changes for Vlad because as a Phillies fan living in Toronto I would LOVE for the Jays to make it to a World Series rematch against the Phillies.

For the initial so-called incident I agree. I would say the Braves got weirdly cocky for a team that came into the series with home field advantage and got lucky to not be facing elimination in game 3, but in the grand scheme of baseball it's a complete non issue. Where I lose respect for them a little bit is their whining about it getting out.

Yeah, but even as a Phillies fan, I never really liked it. I don't mind it quite as much now in the playoffs where elimination is a thing. But back in like April and through most of the season, it just seemed slightly poor taste. I love the big balls gesture and the glasses and the name on the chest thing from last year and a lot of the fun quirky stuff they do. I really love that clubhouse and all the characters on the team. Fucking Stubbs spanking his ass like he's riding a horse after Harper's second HR with Stott doing the big balls move. Buncha fuckin clowns. I love it. I don't hate the throat slash anymore, but I still don't love it. Idk, that's me. Also, yeah the barves fans are a buncha whiners--complaining about the format before they even lost.

These sorts of things are great for the sport. Especially if you're just now getting your beak wet with MLB for the first time during the playoffs. 100% the best time to get into the MLB. Nearly every year, without fail, there's always so many great dramatic things like this that happen. It's like all of the pent up aggression from fighting your way to get to the P.S. over the course of a 162 game season just spills out. I love it.

The Braves are too nice. They remind me of me. Except they actually have elite talent. Im a Phillies fan but i love a lot of their players like Olson, Riley, Albies, D'Arnaud, Arcia, Harris, and Acuña. How can you not love Ozzie? I was rooting like hell for them in 2021. I think they need a killer personality in that clubhouse. Doesn't even have to be a great player, just someone to get some nastiness out of them. And their pitching needs to stay healthy. The Braves and Phillies always seem so nice to each other on the base paths during the regular season. Hopefully that will continue but hopefully a new fierce postseason rivalry has also been born.

I'm a Phillies fan, but honestly, I hate the fact that this was said in a locker room and Harper had to hear it through the media. @@michaelbaker602 Wouldn't be anywhere near a lock for a sweep. It would've been 2 outs top of 9th with a runner on 1st. Most likely game over anyways. Sure, there's a chance. A very small one that there'd be a HR even. I still agree it was one of Harper's many baserunning errors of this season. But I can at least understand the thinking behind it.

@michaelbaker602 I don't blame Harper for going for it. If he would have only went halfway, he would have been at first with 2 outs after tagging as I don't think he would've made it to second. He was just trying to be aggressive.

Doesn't matter if the Braves were running their mouth first, it's immature/childish to act the same way back with stares and "throat cutting" gestures. This "eye for an eye" mentality that immature males have is just dumb. The classy proper thing to do is not say anything at all and let them just simply see you do well. By acting immature and crappy back, you let them know that you cared about what they said. Just stupid. By acting classy and not reacting, you're rising above their garbage and showing that you're not going to give them power over your mind. All of you that subscribe to an eye for an eye need to grow up and evolve.
