Harper getting doubled up to end game two wasn’t a bad play necessarily by Harper, it was just that the center fielder made a phenomenal play in making the catch. At that moment Harper is looking to score and would have if the ball dropped. It’s not like he forgot there was only one out or had some huge mental error. But it’s really dumb to fuel a fire for Harper because he feeds off of emotion and always seems to step up.

It's still a terrible play. Both can be right. Not a Brave or Philly fan, but you don't round 2nd there because in all likelihood if it's not caught a guy with Harper's speed is scoring from 2nd anyways. You can't get doubled up there at ANY cost, Bryce knows it was a huge mistake too.
@Ariaga_II
@Ariaga_II 11 ай бұрын
@@codingbee13 agree to disagree. Also not a fan of either team, however I don't know if Harper scores standing on 2nd the moment the ball it's the dirt. Any quick ricochet that gets back to the fielder immediately would have Harper dead at the plate. To play devils advocate, if the ball drops and due to Harper's tenetive baserunning results in him being stuck at third and is then unable to score after the Braves get two more outs then he would be criticized for making a bad read on the ball and should have been more agressive. I see and understand what he is doing; again he didn't forget about the number of outs nor was he running on a ball he thought was going to drop that was a routine pop fly. In the end it doesn't matter now as the Phillies are moving on.
@codingbee13
@codingbee13 11 ай бұрын
@Ariaga_II also the ball doesn't have to hit the dirt before you leave the bag. Not sure if you just worded it like that or you actually think thats the rule. But you stand at second, leaning towards third and as soon as the ball makes contact with the defender you make your break forward or backward depending on catch or not. There's no excusing getting doubled off to end the game when you're the tying run. No matter what you say.

I’m revisiting this a couple months later, and something just occurred to me. We never really talk about this. Players like Bryce Harper are just so damn good that it really doesn’t surprise us anymore when stuff like this happens. But really think about this. An INCREDIBLE hitter will get 3 hits every 10 at bats. Though average isn’t as big a deal as it used to be, it’s still meaningful. So with that said, that means 70-80% of the time, hitters strikeout, groundout or pop up for an out, or get walked. So that just makes things like this even more incredible. Bryce hit two homers this game ON COMMAND in defiance of Arcias comments. It’s obviously not as huge a moment as this one, but that is comparable to Babe Ruth calling his shot. Maybe not quite as dramatic as that moment, but you know you’re a great hitter when someone pisses you off and you basically say “ok, I’m fixing to end your career or at least embarrass you”, and then actually does it…..twice. What a player.

In the history of Philadelphia sports, I can't think of a single person who is AS CLUTCH as Bryce Harper. Growing up, whenever the good guys were in a "do or die" situation, I was always holding my breath, praying to some higher power that they would come through. Sometimes they'd pull it off, a lot of times you got let down. But when you put Harper in that spot, I feel like you can pretty much depend on him to do it, and do it big. He's said it so many times that he loves this city, loves the fans, loves what we're about, and he rarely disappoints. He was made for this game. @@sparkieT88 umm whattt hahahaha. Started a brawl hahahah. He just proved to y’all he didn’t need to start a brawl. He does the talking with his bat and he just had to show arcia how small arcia actually is.

As a neutral fan to both sides. Braves fans and players have been running their mouth all season (deservedly so they were beastin) and now can’t take the heat for the shit their player said? Blaming the media for “blowing it out of porportion” Happy for Bryce

I knew Braves were done when Harper made the running error to end game 2. The way he looked at the Braves was like you are going to pay and then we know what he did in game 3. Braves don't have anyone like that since Joc left after 2021.

The Phillies exercise a great business model. Have your stars miss a ton of games during season on injured list. That way they are ready to go for playoffs

It's so awesome to see Atlanta eliminated. I watched several of their telecasts on Bally and their analysts were literally talking like they were getting ready for the ring presentation ceremony.

Harper reminds me of how Bautista was. You poked him and he'd come up big the next game or next time up. Harper is a special player for sure, super fun to watch. That could be the last time you ever see someone poke him. lol
