Harpo Marx was 72 at the time, and died about three years after this episode was made. By his own choice, he kept busy right up until the end of his life. Groucho's son Arthur said that Harpo's funeral was the only time he'd ever seen his father cry.

He lived a good life & was probably the happiest man who ever lived. His lived a fascinating life & was a most welcomed guest of the rich & famous; e.g., Bernard Shaw, Pres. Truman, Oscar Levant, Alexander Woollcott. He also smuggled secret papers out of the USSR & knew gangsters of the 1930s. A wonderful life!

Thank you for contacting me. Harpo wasn't only my favorite entertainer. He was my favorite human being. I wrote to Mrs. Marx in 1983 and told her how much I adored him, and what I thought he meant to the world. I was floored at the beautiful response she sent me.
