The climax after 16:25 ff. and the subsequent funeral march theme... this is the moment to live for.

The tone poems of Dvorak are absolutely wonderful. My favourite is “Noonday Witch” however they are all great, the best being equal to any composer.

The composition is based on Erben's ballad: The young woman poisones her husband and marries another young. The pigeon, who sits on an oak tree above the dead´s grave, growls so pitifully that it reminds her the murder. The woman commits suicide - drowns in the river.

Los Peomas sinfonicos de Dvorak, todos, estan a la misma altura de los de Liszt, Sibelius y Strauss, son increibles y agradables al oido.

Another favourite. The bust shown in the early part ('0.45) is of Karel Jaromir Erben, the writer who re-told the folk tales into the version which we know and on the basis of which Dvorak composed the cycle.

Does anyone know the source of the dove image displayed throughout the video? Would love to know so I can get a high quality copy. Needless to say the performance is a treat.

Listen this it’s abolish the surge of noises and images of everyday life in order to open the space of a place where contingency and representation give way to the immateriality of the sensible. Once the door is closed on the agitation of the world, an underlying silence is established, prelude to a dilation of perception and consciousness. In the stream of the notes that pass through us, the expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of the real to attach itself to the expression of an impalpable universe.

This is Slavic music. Dvorak was from Bohemia in Central Europe. Most of his music has a dance rhythm.

I wonder what particular dove the folktale refers to. Collared dove? Turtle dove? Presumably not the Mourning Dove of the Americas, though its call can be, as the name suggests, seen as lachrymose. Perhaps the call of the dove is a leitmotif?
@alaalfa88395 жыл бұрын
only dove.....the transltion is just dove (not wild dove)....but the doves were used as messengers to sent some letter. I dont know which breed, but it seems he posesed this kind of doves.

Rather the turtledove, I think. The czech holoubek is the russian голубка (golubka).

This is so lovely. I don't remember ever hearing it before, so thanks for posting this piece and the three others. I zipped on over to iTunes and bought the album--only $3.99, what a bargain! Is there a folk tale about a wild dove?
@robertberger42037 жыл бұрын
The story is about a woman who poisons her husband to marry another man . The wood done keeps reminding her of her misdeed with its plaintive calls, and she commits suicide . Not a feel good story , but the music can't be beaten !
@lordordog43556 жыл бұрын
Dove's are traditionally regarded as the bird of peace, though these glorified pigeons are so unintelligent that they make other birds appear smart by comparison. Not sure how that fits in with the storyline. Perhaps the dove simply recognized a fellow bird-brain?
