From all these 'Generals in the Mannheim troops' I love the two Stamitzens most. It's amazing, how far ahaid they where and how deeply they formed the character of the musical language and practice of Vienna, which were to come later on in the century.

It is known from young Mozart's letters home, how deply impressed he was by the Mannheimers, when visiting them. (I was just going to wright exactly the same comment as you!) :-)

Reminds mea bit of the organ concerti of Wagenseil who was also a big influencer in that style!

@@engelbertschoormans Wagenseil is inderdaad een spil in de vroegklassieke muziek. Zijn invloed op de generatie na hem valt bijna niet te overschatten. De zes orgelconcerten (of klavecimbel) klinken behoorlijk overtuigend. Jammer genoeg is er maar een fractie van zijn oefre opgenomen. Zelf vind ik zijn strijkkwartetten voor cellos en violone ook wel orginele stukken.
