Unusually, a majority of HIP ensembles choose to use conductors for this repertory even though it is not historical. Better for fundraising, more economical for rehearsal time, but it is not the special sound when led from the keyboard or the violin, as was the practice of the time. Plus, the missing harmonic texture....
