Harquahala Mountain is the highest peak in southwestern Arizona, standing at 5,681 feet. The trail to the summit is rocky and steep, but the breathtaking views and fascinating history of the area make it worth the effort.
Before starting the trail, stop at the trailhead and check out the kiosk for information on the mountain's history, including the Smithsonian observatory that was once located at the summit.
Be prepared for the challenging shelf road, which is steep and winding. Hold onto your steering wheel and enjoy the ride!
