Harrison, NJ Working Fire (8/1/24)

The top floor apartment is mine. I had just walked into my apartment and was like “what’s burning?”. The wall that burned is not a fire wall…it’s just for aesthetics. I know it looks like 2 separate apartments, but the wall actually separates my bedroom and living room. Because they inserted fire hoses from the top, I had some water damage, but the real issue for me was the smoke. The wall basically acted as a chimney. Pretty much lost everything from the smoke damage. I haven’t seen the final fire report yet, but I was told they think a cigarette was tossed, which ignited the landscaping, and then went up the wall. Staying in a hotel still nearly 2 weeks later and dealing with my renters insurance. No one was injured and the Harrison FD definitely was on scene quickly.
