Its a beautiful town with lots of green space and has some.great cafes and resturants and attractions, however it can feel a bit stuck up and cliquey in parts and it isnt the easiest place to meet people and make friends although the whole town isnt all extremely wealthy, the western and Southern half of the town is where the nost affluent parts are.

My parents lived in Harrogate for a couple years like 20 years ago. We’re American. But my dad was vice president of international for Walmart. Now retired. I think he was bringing Walmart over there as asda.
@lauralishes19 ай бұрын
Asda's roots can be traced back to the 1920s. It was first named asda in the 60s. Peter Asquith already opened a chain of supermarkets, he was looking for a company to take over his in store butchery so teamed up with the company Associated Dairies. ASquith + DAiries = the birth of ASDA. That was aound the same time as Wal-Mart was just opening their first store. Walmart then bought asda in the late 90s. Issa Brothers and TDR Capital completed their acquisition of Asda in 2021, but walmart still retained "an equity investment" in Asda, a seat on the board and had an ongoing commercial relationship. However it looks like Asda want to break away and are seeking full independence away from walmart, it may have already happened. Personally I'd say Asda has improved since Walmart sold it.

You'll bump into a few Americans in and around Harrogate..They work at RAF Menwith Hill for communications and intelligence support services to the United Kingdom and the United States .There's even an American supermarket on site at RAF Menwith Hill .Interesting that your dad had something to do with the Walmart Asda buy out.
