Thanks for clearing it up at 2:17 about the mis-conception of the elocker not staying engaged when changing from forward to reverse. This is going in my important desktop folder....probably the website too :) ZUK ps----closer to 4 amps current draw for the electro-magnet itself.

hm I asked to clarify that as I understand it the ball ramp mechanism needs 1/4 turn of the axle to engage if you switch to reverse it will need 1/4 to disengage and then another 1/4 of a turn to re-engage in reveres I cant see how this can be circumvented with this mechanism.
@AussieFourWheelers6 жыл бұрын
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV the ramp plate doesn't move except when pressing the switch on and off, to engage and disengage. That's why if you reverse it will remain locked. Hope that clears it up for you.

Hi Mate, I just called the technical department of Harrop in Australia and they confirmed that the Harrop Eaton E-Locker DOES disengages your locker when reversing, they call it a safety mechanism. So what I noticed and had on video is exactly how the E-Locker is supposed to work according to Harrop Australia. Don't take my word for it though just call them and they will confirm this. Hope that clears it up

Will it stay engaged when rapidly selecting 1st then reverse (a number of times) when stuck? I don't want a diff lock that unlocks when I need it most. Where the wire comes out of the diff housing will it leak if I get stuck in a metre of water for half an hour while I'm pulling the car out with my hand winch because I cant use the power winch because it is completely submerged. This is the type of 4 wheel driving I do and strength is not the only criterea for durability in my view. That it actually works when I need it most ie rocking the vehicle - read loading up the driveline then unloading the driveline and fording deep river crossings and getting stuck. In short I need a diff lock that is NOT air powered that stays on until I turn it off. I don't like air powered diff locks because when the going gets tough, the diff housing naturally flexes and the air line inside the housing could get fatigue cracking and leak. To me that is a failure. If i can't use it when I need it then what is the use of it? If it leaks air or has water ingress then that is a fail. If it unlocks when I need it most that is a fail.

hello, just wondering you mention that the Harrop Elocker engagement is instantaneous and that it does not unlock temporarily if you reverse? How is that possible with your ball ramp mechanism? Doesn't the ball ramp mechanism need 1/4 turn of the axle to engage and if you select reveres 1/4 turn to go back to neutral and then another 1/4 of a turn to engage in reverse? As far as I can see only the Eaton eLocker4 for the Dana 60/70 has an instantaneous engagement and will stay engaged if you switch into reverse, could you please clarify.
@AussieFourWheelers6 жыл бұрын
AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV Harrop doesn't use "ball ramp" like Eaton does. They use pins and the engagement is on the opposite side. They're not the same lockers either. Eaton is 2-pinion and Harrop is 4-pinion. In regards to your question, when the electromagnet is energised, it holds the ramp plate which pushes the pins and they push the locking ring on the opposite side to lock with the side gear. They remain locked whether you drive forward or reverse until you turn the switch off, which releases the ramp plate and the pins slide back into their slots and release the lock ring from side gear. I hope that answers and clarifies your question.

hm I had a different experience and if you look on the video it seems like it does exactly that kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIOcoWOpmM6Cb7sm20s it turns a different way depending on direction, I agree that the short disconnection when you reverse direction is 99% of the time no issue but I had situations were I felt the difference hence I changed to TJM Pro lockers

have a good instance of it on video it clearly shows the disengagement after rolling back 10cm and then takes a little to re-engage, didn't notice this anywhere on the the last VHC Trip only during a technical bit in Lithgow or Ranger Bob

AllOffroad 4x4 Adventures TV thanks for going through that effort calling them to confirm. I believe what you're saying. It looks like I was wrong and you are right. I apologize for that it any drama caused. I'll also have a better look/test on my next install and see what it does when chucking in reverse. Cheers.

Wanna win the world competition? Develop a Torsen-style LSD with an integrated selectable locker....my Overlander is forced to run a TrueTrac LSD in the rear and a locker in the front so I can get good on-road/bad road/bad weather handling and still pull some nasty stuff off-road. All we have now are good hybrid or trailer options with nothing winning the race.

This did exist, but I think Eaton bought the IP and killed it. FWIW they did have issues with gears breaking in it. It was called a tru-lok and was only available in the rear of the 2003-2006 Wrangler Rubicon. It was a helical lsd with an integrated air locker iirc.
