I have really been enjoying this series. Thanks for showcasing the rivals format this way.

Im almost positive that Tammael can do push. Guard = cannot be driven back, not preventing drive step from happening. Instead of driving back you push 1.
@Olssonocholsson3 жыл бұрын
Yep
@Hodgyish3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he can still Push as it's different from Driven Back.
@TabletopSydney3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that makes sense. Thank you!

The counter argument is that the ability is instead of the drive back. If there’s no drive back, there’s nothing to trigger the instead part of the ability.
@Atilakus3 жыл бұрын
@@kingbobb007 That is also one way to interpret it. I think that generaly rules in tournamets etc is that these can push. Same is Arrow of Desire from Dread Paegant.

That did not go they way I thought it would, especially with the way the fish did Bahannar. Great event! Rivals really shakes up our ideas of where warbands sit in terms of power.

Yeah, both the Myaris last games have had the mace man dying early, and I thought it was over from there but here we are! :D

Loved the format (both tournament and Rivals rules) and would be keen to see more of this going forward. Especially good to see Idoneth and Lumineth up there. Congrats to Jacko on the win! There are some cool advantages to Rivals. I think it gives the potential for war bands to have a greater, more distinct identity, instead of everyone running a lot of the same universals. It also seems to force you to look at the fighter cards a bit more, as you can't compensate as much by stacking great strength or accuracy cards on fighters to compensate for their weaknesses. On the other hand, it does feel like luck could have a bigger role in Rivals games i.e. lots of dead/more situational cards - and obviously cutting out deck building removes a really interesting part of the game. My only suggestion would be that you introduce a best of three format, even if you only upload the best game of the three. This could control a bit more for luck. I totally get that this would not be viable, though, as it's a much bigger time investment. I also think it would be interesting to see players come back to war bands with the experience they have from this format, as they will better know the decks - e.g. what cards are coming up, what objectives are not worth going for, the little tricks that fighters can do.

Great analysis on rivals, the only concern I have is that the cards are a bit too niche that the warbands feel solely like the fighter cards. I agree that championship felt a bit cookie cutter at the end of Direchasm (unsure about now), but there is a balance between decks and fighters that I am still unsure if it has been found. Regarding filming and Bo3's, it's tough. We meet once every few weeks and play 5-7 games in a session (setting up the gear and packing it down take a few hours so just rocking up for some pickup games isn't viable) so turning that into Bo3's means we have weeks of the same matchup (which I think gets stale) or we only release 1 game of the Bo3 and we have to meet every week to get 2 games uploaded (which is not sustainable as I have a few different projects I split my time among). I am not sure if there is a solution here, the best idea would be to have a permanent space where we could just rock up during the week and play some games (recorded) easily, but that costs a bit more than is worth at this stage :P

@@TabletopSydney Very fair points - I could definitely see some warbands without a lot of interesting cards being just stat blocks. And yeah, cookie cutter builds only really kick in once we have a lot of universals towards the end of season. There's also the possibility that faction cards will be more prominent in Championship with a smaller pool of universals this season. Completely understandable re Bo3s, 🤞🤞 for the Tabletop Sydney recording studio!!

Love your videos! Keep doing it! I'm not a good at new rules and I've got a question. Is it correct to flip idoneth band at the beginning of round 2? Regarding new rules I guess you need to wait first inspiration stage to do that (it's the end of first activation in round 2). Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct, we played it incorrect as we recorded this game the week of pre-orders and the full details how how the new inspiration mechanic worked were not evident yet :)
