Harry Chapin--a great humanitarian and philanthropist. He gave 50% of his earnings to the World Hunger Organization and never forgot the 'have-nots'. There hasn't been another like him before him or since. He's with the angels and in our hearts.

Thanks for posting all of these! I really like the portion herein of Harry doing "Mr. Tanner". I was only 7 when Harry died, but had heard "Cat's in the Cradle" by that point; ah, the benefit of having parents exposing their kids to music! Harry was the coolest in his '72-'74 period, and his first 3 records (especially "Sniper.....") were his best. He was never more daring, or counterculture if you will, as he was on those records. The hair, the beard, the sincerity, the whole early 70's / hangover from the 60's thing (which is what the early 70's were, a last gasp of all that great music from the 60's)... everything about him....his early period is his best musically. Along w/ Jim Croce and Tim Buckley (3 different singer/songwriters with their own stamp and uniqueness) have formed something of a holy Trinity for me. They're all missed, but regarding Harry, I just love the early footage. Thanks again!

Howie fields was such a great addition to Harry's band. His drum contribution to Chapin songs added a special sound. Often as in such songs such as, "Merceneries", his drum playing helps establish the mood.

It's so good to see these videos. Thank you so much for loading them.
I read he was only performer who made his debut on the Tonight show who was asked to come back the next night from the overwhelming audience response. He played Taxi the first night, and I assume this is from the 2nd night.

Unfortunately we actually don't have footage of either of those nights to my knowledge. That late night show was in 1972, this one is probably around 1978 since this is the title track from the Dance Band on the Titanic album.
