By popular demand, I have posted the entire album Harry James-Live at the Riverboat.
This album was actually recorded over two days, (each session was six hours) by the James band. I only wish that Dot had issued a double album and included some of the amazing jazz charts that filled the James book during the sixties!
Harry's playing was incredible, and the entire band was on high-energy status.
This album has become legendary among Harry James fans!

Settled for Sonny? :) I always thought he was Harry's most swinging and tasteful drummer, as well as a delight to watch!

Chuck, thanks for taking time to post this great album. Man, Gee Baby got me going. Great vocal. arrangement and James blowing the blues was great..but then, what's new? I was able to see many big bands in person when I was in the Air Force, but I missed my favorite, HJ Music Makers. During WWII I used to lay listening with my dad to HJ on radio. That was his favorite musician too.

I have taken countless fellow musicians there to watch Buddy, they all were changed forever. One guy who was a drummer, just kept shaking his head in disbelief.

@@robertcarli5803yep, Buddy finally decided to start his own band in ‘66, but not without some false starts at first until he got some great charts which were considered modern in 1966. You have to have interesting music or no one will listen.

Saw Roy Burns in the audience who Buddy introduced during intermission. A fellow drummer told Burns he thought Louis was better and Burns said "No! You're looking at the best".

Hey Chuck, in 1964 my dad took us all to Disneyland. And wouldn't you know it, he made me stand by the railing at the Carnation Plaza Gardens and watch Harry James featuring Buddy Rich! What was he thinking? 😎😎😎
