These fine gentlemen exemplify everything good in the audiophile world. Thank you, Steve, for introducing us to them.

I really feel lucky to own a VPI. It's my favorite piece of gear I own and it sounds amazing paired with my decware zp3 and taboo amplifier! I look forward to evenings in my basement with a cold beer, and a board game with my daughter enjoying my prime scout.

Great interview! Proud to own a VPI HW-19 Mk.III for 21 years. Working fine with no end in sight. Interchangeable tonearms is its special feature (working with SME, Rega, and AT Signet). Would not change it, ever!

Thank you, Harry, Matt & Steve! This was an enlightening and entertaining session. I've been an HW-19 owner since the late 80's and actually never felt a need to upgrade - it always sounds great, lots of all the good stuff..clarity, depth, width, bass, highs, etc. I'm simple and cheap. Actually, I took the table (with it's SME 309 tonearm) to Brooks Berdan in Monrovia, CA for a little tuneup one day and they told me it had been upgraded to a "supercharged" Mark III.

I was always enamoured with Michell turntables cause of a clockwork orange when I first saw that movie in my mid to late teens. VPI ran a close second. When it came to upgrading my rega in the late 80s early 90s I bought a SOTA...the model with the outboard electronic flywheel. That took me through roughly to 8 years ago, when I wanted to upgrade to a VPI or possibly Michell...still reminiscing over that movie. Unfortunately, out here each was and always have been due to import duties, the cost of shipping etc just not as competitive as what I ended up purchasing. The brand, although new to me, was German with a few recent awards at the time - Acoustics Signature. Whilst I don't regret my purchase, fact is I'd be very well satisfied with any of the higher end decks. They all sound stunning, build quality excellent and although not important to sound...visually appealing. I loved this interview... Maybe there's still a time and a place for me to buy a VPI TT or if not perhaps a cleaning machine!!

Awesome video,in that books period of time there was another die hard named Bob Graham,his first tonearm was meant for McIntosh tts,but Mac pulled out,I still use that arm called the Excalibur,with a Shure gold the arm is s unipivot,and yes it still works great and in some ways rivals my 2 2 arm,I like VPI but my rig is a two and a half inch thick slate plinthed Lenco,I did have an Aries the higher end one, Great vid though

I was so, so very close to buying a VPI. In the end, I went with Rega. Really like these guys. I think it might have been Michael Fremer who was at an audio show and Mat was behind the table for Shinola because VPI apparently makes a good part of Shinola 'tables too. I mean, he wasn't working the VPI table at the show...he was working Shinola's table! What a guy!

Steve, in the spirit of Vinyl vs. CD, I'm curious and looking forward to your review of the Jays Audio CDtransportt with the Denafrips Aeres .. curious how this compares to your SME turn table.

Still have the HW19 with a Grado signature S arm in the closet .lost the acrylic cover somewhere. $14 hundred at the time.Chose the HW over a Linn Soda ..Replaced by a California Audio Lab CD player some time in the 80's ..

I would own a VPI... if it came with a dust cover. Rega got my money for that reason. Just saying.
@carlosbauza11395 жыл бұрын
The older model HW-19 (three versions: plain, Mk-III, and Mk-IV) come with acrylic dust cover. I would pit them against any current Ttables, probably unchallenged.
@janedoe85335 жыл бұрын
The dust cover hinges on VPI are pot metal and rust to a solid brown. Rega uses real metal. You made the right choice buying a Rega

40 years of crap. A book to remind you why you shouldn't have bought a VPI turntable. Or a good reminder why you didn't buy a VPI turntable.
