dari is my neighbour; im skip j king.i knew nilsson wrote this and it is great.he actually penned the song in 1965, and my late cousin phil spector added a magnificent orchestration , but never released it until the back to mono cd set 1989. This would have sold like hotcakes!

Harry Nilsson wrote "This Could Be the Night" (1966) as a tribute to Brian Wilson, with production helmed by Phil Spector. (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicianship_of_Brian_Wilson)

Brian Wilson did a recording of this song (perhaps you knew that) ;-)

this does remind me a lot of love you- a brilliant guy trying to get his footing back when it comes to songwriting and production- still not quite 'all there' but still endearing despite (or because of) that shortcoming. it's also kind of uncanny how much harry's voice from this period sounded like brian's from the late 70's. it's such a shame that harry passed away, in interviews from the early 90's he really sounded excited to be getting back into the studio

A lot of people really hate Harry's later work for some reason, but I really enjoy this. It's very sweet.
@michaelgaedt56466 жыл бұрын
It's not a "later" work by Harry, he wrote it in 1966 for Brian Wilson. Harry's own version is so much better though-full lyrics.

The song was originally sent to Phil Spector whom produced it for the group The Modern Folk Quartet. Subsequently, Spector ruined the tune (depending on your tastes of course) with Spector's one-trick-pony "wall of sound" production. Mick Brown writes about Nilsson's tune in his Spector bio "Tearing Down The Wall of Sound" and I quote "...Spector's production sounded as if it had been recorded in a school gymnasium--a vibrantly echoing melange of chiming guitars, bells and exuberant, sunny harmonies. It could-oh, the irony!--almost have been a Beach Boy's record. Brian Wilson happened to visit God Star [recording studios] as the song was being completed."

I did not know that he wrote this....I heard Phil Spectors version in the 80s on Rodney on the ROQ, KROQ LA radio.

brian wilson singing that version, right? Kinda fun having the target of a tribute song sing the song... like that show where Lou Reed sang Queen Bitch with Bowie. ( I'm here cause I was trying to look up who wrote this. The little intro with the girl talking and all kinds of random overlaid stuff- I heard of a lot of different usually british bands from that show)

这个是Harry在1990年代初的录制版本,虽然嗓音非常困难,不过依然唱得甜蜜动人。

Mac DeMarco modern day Harry Nilsson
@fshoaps Жыл бұрын
Go screw yourself. That is so insulting. Just because they share vaguely similiar hair colors? Mac DeMarco isn't into pop music. He looks down on pop music as overly commercial, simplistic, and childish. Harry Nilsson, Phil Spector, John Lennon and Brian Wilson held an entirely different view, that pop music should be cherished, as the music of the people, and should be treated as a serious, smart artform.

Singers write songs but have other people sing them. Joe Jones, who sang "You Talk Too Much" in 1960 wrote "California Sun". His version doesn't cut it ! It's on YT. The Modern Day Quartet brought me here. Phil produced it. On the 45 it shows Harry Nilsson Phil Spector as the writers. Did he produce this ?
