A little remark: in the fifth book, a Ravenclaw student asks Hermione why she is not a Ravenclaw too "with her brains", and she replies that the Sorting Hat seriously wanted to sort her into Ravenclaw, but ended up with Gryffindor. For many reasons

And, if it's about those two houses, there's another thing: in the official additional materials, it is mentioned that when McGonagall and Flitwick were sorted, the Hat had to make the very same choice. Eventually, they were sorted into Gryffindor and Ravenclaw correspondingly, then became house heads - and were shocked to learn that the situation could've been veeeeerrrrryyyy different if the Hat had made another decision

If you look at the remember ball when Neville first gets it everyone is wearing their black cloak he is the only one who is not that is what he forgot. And if I'm not mistaken in the books Hermione states that the Sorting Hat wanted to place her in Ravenclaw it was debating between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor for her

The sorting hat scans your mind [or perhaps your soul] and sees what your strengths and weaknesses are and based on that it picks a house that you will fit into. The thing is, you might fit well into more than one house and so it will listen to what you want - but I suspect if you want a house where you wouldn't fit in then it would not put you there. Oh, and that whole conversation is just between the hat and the person - in the movie it seems like the hat is speaking out loud, but it is actually all in the head of the person wearing the hat until the hat has made a decision and only then does the hat say it out loud.

@@TheHappyCryers What ?? You didn't see Lord of the Rings ???? Harry Potter are my favorites books, i grew up with them, i was the same age as the cast, i was (and probably still are) obsessed. But the movies are not my favorites, they are ok movies for me. But Lord of the Rings movies are just perfection. Best movies ever. Actually the last one won 11 Oscars, being the film that won the most Oscars ever (tie with Titanic and Ben-hur). You HAVE TO watch them !!!

One of my favorite lines in this movie is 'It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live', There are so many little nuggets of wisdom and wholesomeness dropped by Dumbledore in here! For a lot of Harry Potter book fans, this world has so much special meaning for them and it is indeed like coming home again the moment you press play or go to your bookmark. We can all empathize and connect with the people and situations in these movies even as an adult. It's universal.

The last time I was in Scotland, I got to ride the real train that was used. It runs from Ft. William (from the train station in the movie), to Mallaig with one stop along the way. The stop is where they get off for Hogwarts in the movies. It was an amazing trip.

22:46 oh my god finally fiiiiinally someone who thought the exact same thing about these movies/books/stories as me, someone who looks at them the way i do. Like exactly, it is absolutely impressive to think JKR took the concept of magic which wasn't original or unique to her it was used before in story tellings but she created an entire UNIVERSE surrounding it, she made it realistic, she gave it rules, background, history, phenomena...i mean when u just look at the concept of wands only, the fact that she introduced the idea that it chooses the wizard + each wand has cores and they're made of certain magical elements... she also made up objects that are completely unique to this universe...just wow, insanely impressive. As flawed as JKR is as a person w her views, but one must admit her creative literary talent is something!

I don’t think a lot of people actually take a moment to process the small details and integration of the real world! Even the way she had the broomsticks for quidditch release new editions every year, mimicking actual sport practices! In the book when Neville confronted Harry, Hermione, and Ron in the common room he was looking for Trevor, his run-away toad. It was a coincidence, not a concerted conspiracy from the other members of the house.

One thing that bothered me about the movies is how they dumbed down ron!! Ron and most of the other kids were already good at flying, they fly and play quidditch at home lol, They grew up with magic, so ron tells harry and hermione a lot of magical facts that they don't know. But yess Harry is def a natural, he had no idea what magic even was, and he's killing it. Hermione at least had all summer to read and study before going in, she was very prepared. Also, I wish percy had more lines like on the books, him and the twins also stayed for christmas I believe, and they flew their brooms with harry, I would have loved to see that on film, I hope we see it on the show. And neville gets more backstory and lines, like his living situation.

Talking about JK Rowling's genious, it's even more impressive when you read the books and realize there are plots, and several sub-plots, sometimes throughout differentes books, and they all tie together. Now, about the movies, they did change things and characters. Personnaly, I don't like that they gave greats lines or actions from other characters to Hermione. For example, in this one, Hermione is the one who panicks with the devil snare and Ron is the one to reassure her that she's a witch and can do something to get out of this. Hermione is probably my favorite character from the books, there was no need to give her all this attentions to make her a great character. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense (like when she's upset and explains what mudblood means whereas she grew up in a muggle family. Of course, Ron is the one to explain it.)

23:25 It actually makes sense and I think it may even be a thing they talk about in the books; how electricity and all these "muggle inventions" came out of a need to make things easier and more efficient. Wizards and witches on the other hand never needed to invent a dishwasher or electric ligthing because they could just use magic.

I didn’t see you mention it, but I’m surprised you didn’t tell your wife that the motorcycle Hagrid rode in on with baby Harry belonged to Sirius Black (a character that first appears in the 3rd film). Plus, the wand chooses the wizard. The wizard does not choose the wand. That’s a very important point later on in the series.

Now the motorcycle belonging to Sirius is such a cool fact but I wouldn’t have know who Sirius is until the the third movie. It might have been a bit of a spoiler too. It is great to see the same group of child actors keep returning to reprise their characters, so you see them grow up over the course of the movies. There's a few exceptions, for various reasons. There is one overlooked part of the lore, that doesn't quite fit right, for me. EVERYTHING in this world is done in a variant of Imperial, where everything is measured in strange ways. It's like feet / inches or pounds / shillings. There's one part of this world that doesn't fit. Quidditch is very clearly DECIMAL, where it's increments of 10, and 150 points is more like video game scoring. I believe it was a placeholder when JK Rowling was working on the novel, and it got overlooked in the rewrites. By the time it'd be noticed, it's already set into the lore in both movie and novel form. They keep the old / traditional ways of measuring, and counting, in everything except Quidditich scoring.
