He didn't get to pick what there were. There were only those 3 options. He said, "empty bishop square." As in, there wasn't a piece there. So he gave hermione the safest piece to protect her. Harry a piece that's easy to escape with. And himself the worst option out of bravery.

The very last move is true, that it wasnt checkmate. But my guess is that this was resign from white. Or so to speak. It wouldn't have changed outcome

He did make the move, you can see the queen on the ground next to him after he calls checkmate. I guess it was just cut.

IMO Ron played brilliantly. He essentially had 3 piece in addition to King that he can't lose. And he almost succeed in doing so only to lose himself at end. This is super hard. Try playing a game online and forfeit whenever you lose that bishop knight or rock and you will not be able to stay on your current rank.

at 1:36 - that's not a bishop on c1 it's a rook, you can look up the isle of lewis chess pieces and then compare to what you see in the film

There’s a black rook in the right of the shot for reference, where it appears to be sitting. There’s also a black bishop on the left of the shot which looks identical to the white bishop on C1.

Edit: nvm, I missed the "declare mate" I have a question... isnt the horse on a3 a checkmate than just check? When discussing sacrificing harry's piece. The white king cant move to a1 cuz of bishop on white nor c1 becuase hermione as the rock blocks that.

No. It’s not checkmate until the other side has no other move that will take the king out of check. In this case, white has the queen, which takes Ron.

Sacrificing rook is followed by black Nh3 ( Ron ) and it is win for black. 1. ... ; Rc1+ 2. Qd1 ; Nh3# or 1. ... ; Rc1+ 2. Rc1 ; Bc1 I don't understand why Rc3 is played, then obviously followed by Qc3 and either next move - Bc5 or Nh3 can be eliminated by white queen

You got it all WRONG DUDE! Harry Potter is the DARK SQUARE BISHOP of Black as what you pictured, but Hermonie is NOT the rook on the king side! She’s the other rook on the QUEEN SIDE cuz her square standing on is WHITE at 3:14!! A8 rook!! & RON is the KNIGHT RIGHT NEXT TO HARRY OR KING SIDE G8 KNIGHT!! You got it wrong dude

Check 2:56, you’ll notice the black queen is on a white diagonal, meaning the film producers without realizing misplaced the entire board. Then they shot the later scenes and switched the pieces they were playing.
