Movies must be made from the most superficial scanning of books. This is why there could never be a movie based on Heinlein's Starship Troopers. The essence of the tale lay in the philosophical discussions among the characters.

I think a common misconception is Dumbledore being omniscient and a villain. The reason Dumbledore often knows everything going on in the school is because all the staff report to him. All the members of the Order of the Phoenix report to him for the same reasons. Dumbledore is also intelligent and studious as well as experienced. Dumbledore's skill at reading people allows him to know who to keep an eye on and who to trust. His greatest strength is his ability to see things from multiple angles. He knows which decisions out of the available options are the least risky. Harry living with the Dursleys allowed him to be concealed from Dark Wizards. He was marked for death as a baby, and that scar is like a bullseye for the Death Eaters. If you complain about Dumbledore not helping Sirius, Sirius didn't have a trial, so Dumbledore had no opportunity to hear his side of the story or investigate. Most of the information that could be used to defend Sirius was either known only by the Marauders, or between Sirius and Pettigrew. Dumbledore simply didn't have any reason to think Sirius was innocent until Harry told him about what he had witnessed. Dumbledore knew they would need proof in order to clear Sirius because he knew Fudge was stubborn.

In the HP world How long does magic cast spells by someone last after they die? If someone puts a curse on someone can they make it last forever after they (the curse caster) die? When it comes to building a house using magic can the house be made to still be livable forever even after the person who magically built the house dies?
