Are you serious? This is one of the best Harry Potter game that I played simply because it is true to the novel and it has a lot of things in it like making potions, collecting ingredients, wizards and witches card, spell class, broom chase and dragon chase, candies and almost everything in Harry Potter are in this game. The only thing that I dislike about this game is the slowness. It's not about nostalgia because played many Harry Potter games in PSX, PC and GBA and all of them sucks and very simple.

Gold Piece Some of the most iconic video game music is in 8 bit. World 1-1 theme, Dr Wily’s Castle, Legend of Zelda overworld theme, etc. It’s not an excuse.

this is one of my favorite games on gbc, probably part of that is nostalgia and the fact that you really have to be a harry potter fan to enjoy its 'slowness', the music and the castle. It's based on the books not the movies as you said, and that alone is amazing.

Can't agree with most of this. I played the second game to death and back when I was a kid, and finally played this one as well. It IS pretty slow, yes, but the part about not knowing where you are is ... weird to me. The floors are all visually different, on top of having cues like griphon statues or the flooded bathroom or the statues and so on. At some point you should be able to tell them apart, I'd assume...?

I liked it. It was closest to the books. It had Peeves who was cut out of the console versions except the PS1 version but that didn't follow the books or the movies.

Under thirty, might not get it. I love this game. Things didn't seem slow back then. I complain now over a 15 second ad when it used to take way longer to just connect to the internet. And when your online and someone picked up the phone.

I think this game is funny, just because it's on Gbc. It looks so cheesy it's funny. I've recently bought this and the Chamber of secrets for the Gbc (CIB too,) just love how everything looks xd. And the game is pretty ok, i mean yea the wandering around to search for items is a bit dull but it's ok.

good review and good video. i enjoyed watching :D I remember playing this game when i was younger. you are right on target when you say how slow it is! man those battles took forever. I never did beat it, because I never grinded enough before entering the trapdoor, so the chessmen battle was too annoyingly difficult (for me and my low level, at least). the graphics are pretty nice for GBC though, so that's a plus, i agree.

That's the only explanation I can think of. Like, the game is clearly supposed to look like a 2D Final Fantasy, right? But when there's only *one* playable character, half of the battle screen looks super empty. If they had a little more time, I think they should've made a bigger, more detailed sprite for Harry in-battle. That might have been the best way to work around Ron and Hermione's absence.

I still have (weirdly fond) memories of playing rounds of Magic The Gathering at 2am with the two other programmers, waiting for QA to give us the green light to go home and crash (and then rinse/repeat the next day).
