I only found that out years after the series came out, when my orchestra actually played the piece. It was so AWESOME! Having all cellos, violins, and violas play together sounded amazing, not to mention the bass. It's such a great song!

The fact that hose glasses could make music is already magic in itself. Truly amazing. I would empty my spare change on him for turning that street he plays in into a realm of magical possibilities.

I tried the wine glasses experiment for the first time yesterday, and pretty soon my dad and I had all our wine glasses out on the kitchen counter with different amounts of water in then... :) I love it; I'm using a wineglass as a key prop in a speech about music and harmonics tomorrow, and I desperately want to build my own setup now!

@ThePaigePixie you run your finger tip along the edge of the glass making the glass vibrate. the amount of water in the glass determines the pitch because it effects the amount of vibrating the glass does

Ilya tunes his harp after about every 3 songs, not because of evaporation per se, but because his fingers have to keep dipping into the glasses to stay moist enough to make the glasses "sing".

I managed to make the noise with ordinary wine glasses, although I haven't made a glass harp with several glasses, it does sound better with crystal, I found out kind of by accident that I could play it when I dipped my finger in a glass of water and ran my finger around the rim of the glass. It's a bit like a glass violin where your finger is the bow. I don't think everybody can play it though.

@chrisredfiled123 the sound is dependent on the volume of water in the glass. Just have to "tune" them by ear and remember which glass is which note.

@guitarherocarlos Thank you and everyone for your nice comments. I just watched this video again (it's from 2007) and I am STILL amazed by how Ilya was able to reach over and point to the crystal glasses for my camera and get the angle right.. he's smooth. And, brilliant. hehe
@lionarons13 жыл бұрын
@alexsolosm Some "normal" glasses work fine. I know. I have built four glass harps. Crystal also works, sometimes too well. Because of its purity and maybe thickness, it tends to vibrate too long. I had this explained to me by Jamie Turner of Alexandria, VA, when I visited him last summer. In this video Ilya mentions that he has five crystal and the rest ordinary glass, so obviously both kinds are able to "sing."
