Professor Dumbledore's death was one of the most traumatic for Harry to witness. Right alongside his parents' murder at the hands of Voldemort when he was 15 months old, Cedric Diggory at the ratty (pun fully intended) hands of Wormtail during the last task of the Triwizard Tournament in that graveyard, and Sirius dying at the hands of his psychotic cousin Bellatrix Lestrange before he disappeared into the Veil in the Ministry Of Magic. Also, this is one of the few times Ron is shown to be intelligent in the movies. The scene on the Hogwarts Express where he's explaining the Unbreakable Vow to Harry, specifically. The wizard's chess scenes from Philosopher's Stone is another. I think another good example is the good questions he was asking in Chamber Of Secrets when Harry found that crumpled up book page in Hermione's hand.
@shirleydurr4116 ай бұрын
They really made Ron seem an idiot in the movies. Not so in the books. In "Chamber" of example, it was Ron who reminded Hermione she could use a spell to create light to stop the Devil's Snare from consuming them. He knew she was better at spells and the like than he and Harry. What can be learned from books was Hemione;s strength. Strategy and tactics (and thinking in the moment) were strengths for Harry and Ron (chess player). The fact that they passed their OWLS with high enough marks to continue on the path to becoming aurors is proof of their intelligence. You couldn't be an auror with low scores. This is also not emphasized in the movies.
@nod_jawk17 күн бұрын
(spoiler to those who haven't seen the last movies) Some other moments of intelligence from movie-Ron : _ He makes the rest of "Dumbledore's Army" escape their keepers from Umbridge's office (when Umbridge went with Hermione and Harry in the Forbidden Forest to find "Dumbledore's secret weapon"), by tricking them to eat twins Weasley's sweets so that they get sick _ When Hermione and Ron see Draco Malfoy disappear on the Marauders' Map, he understands that he should have entered the Room of Requirement, as Hermione told him the year before that this Room is not shown by the Map _ He survived alone in the wild for some time when he separated from Harry and Hermione. He didn't get caught or killed while there were dark times out there for non Death Eaters. It takes wit and resourcefulness to avoid patrols and/or escape questioning without being put in jail. He even managed to steal wands from some enemies. _ HE CAN SPEAK PARSELTONGUE JUST BY HEARING HARRY SPEAKING IT IN HIS SLEEP !!!! That's pure genius (and too much imo) _ Even the fact that he is afraid of the BIG spiders in the Forbidden Forest is a sign of intelligence : if the flying car hadn't inexpectedly come to their rescue, Harry would have made Ron and him killed by insisting too much on speaking to Aragog while they were being surrounded by those deadly venomous monsters. If the car hadn't been there (and Harry had obviously forgotten about it), it's Ron who had the best idea : running away before it was too late _ He could drive his father's car with not much problems (like stalling) when Dobby blocked the passage to platform 9 3/4. And its a flying car, meaning he "drives" in 3 directions, not in 2D. Not too bad for a 13 years old boy

So glad you appreciate Helena Bonham Carter, a great actor who has performed a variety of roles -- sometimes the good guy, sometimes the bad guy. For example, she's the Fairy Godmother in Disney's :non-animated "Cinderella" movie (2015). Her list of credits is very long and still growing. Tons of movies and a scattering of (British?) TV roles -- not necessarily the star.

My favorite film of hers is "Big Fish", where she plays a number of women of varying ages. The explanation given at one point is that there were only two women in the world for the central character Edward Bloom: the woman he fell in love with and married and all the ones that were not. Helena Bonham Carter played the ones that were not.

If you want to know why Bellatrix is the way she is, then I suggest the fan film 'sisters of the house black'. You can see this before the next 2 films if you wish as there are no spoilers in it. My favourite bit is when Sirius says 'someone kill me now': he's standing next to Bellatrix!
@JessieNebulousGaming6 ай бұрын
Bellatrix is hot because Helena Bonham Carter is SMOKING. She's slightly mad, too, but in the most wonderful way. :D Apparently, while working on the films, Daniel Radcliffe had a big crush on her, and I don't blame him at all! There is definitely some great comedic acting in this one, particularly from Harry and Ron. And Tom Felton deserves massive praise in my opinion for being able to humanize Draco and provide some much-needed depth to the character by showcasing just how scared and tormented he is in this one. I wish they'd spent more time developing Ginny over the series, though, because she was *way* better in the books and their relationship development in the movies feels really abrupt. And since you've never seen Doctor Who, just putting it out there. . . it's a brilliant series, and if you react, I will watch. ;)

My least favorite adaptation but they're all really good movies. Dumbledore was about 115 when he died so the trio weren't that far off. 😉 Sirius had 3 cousins who's maiden names were Black. Bellatrix LeStrange, Narcissa Malfoy and Andromeda Tonks. Andromeda was shunned when she married a muggle named Ted Tonks. Draco and Tonks are first cousins. Bellatrix not only killed her cousin Sirius, she volunteered to kill her niece Tonks. Poor Maggie Smith (McGonagall) was undergoing chemo while filming. She was so weak that they often had to have her positioned with something to prop her up. She also lost her hair but she said it was okay because it made her McGonagall wig fit better. That lady us a major trooper because you can't even tell how ill she was during filming. They left out a lot of memories pertaining to Voldemort that explain some things later on in the next 2 movies. Bellatrix and the werewolf Greyback never showed up at the Weasley home in the book. The whole thing is stupid. BTW Greyback is the werewolf that attacked and turned Lupin into a werewolf when he was a little kid. Moral of the story..never use a spell handwritten in a book when you don't know what it does Harry. Snape's mother Eileen Prince married a muggle named Tobias Snape. Snape was proud of his mother's wizard blood..ergo Half-Blood Prince. Choosing Draco to kill Dumbledore when Voldemort never thought he'd succeed was punishment for Lucius losing the prophecy. Voldemort would have been pleased if he'd succeeded or died either one. Draco dying was his idea of punishing his parents.

55:24 - Right there, that feeling- if they were able to take Malfoy, the blonde villain and make the theatre feel bad for him, and placing all of our anger with Snape and Voldemort - then the film did its job. There were MANY others that told the same story in a VASTLY different way. The Goblet of Fire is a great example. It was an AMAZING BOOK but was VASTLY different from what was still an amazing film. The same with The Prizoner of Azkaban. That story is so complex, regarding time. They also introduced a TON of long term characters in that book. When it was brought to screen it was the FIRST FILM with a different director. There were so many important parts of the story left out. The worst adaptation of any though, is hands down The Order of the Phoenix. There are MAJOR plot points that are left out, character development plot points. They also throw Cho in as the person who turned them in. She didn’t have anything remotely to do with it. (This was done to separate Harry and Cho in the Films, they spent ZERO TIME building the relationship between him and Ginny as it was displayed in the books). The only reason people like this film is because Umbridge was rightfully displayed as evil. Had any other actress played her- this film would have a very different ranking. This is also the ONLY FILM in the ENTIRE SERIES that LOST MONEY after all expenses were done. It lost 167 million dollars.
@toodlescae6 ай бұрын
@@joshuacoldwater agreed..although I give OOTP a bit of a pass because it was the only one that particular screenwriter was in charge of and he not only had to deal with the longest book in the series but all of the stuff the usual screenwriter had left out and/or changed. There were so many lead ins for plot points in OOTP from previous books that were left out or changed in previous movies that I'm amazed he even managed to make a coherent film in the first place. For example everything that happened in Dumbledore's office, the hospital wing and the train after the tournament in GOF was left out. That was a lead in to Fudge's attitude at the beginning of OOTP. It was a lead in to how Fred & George were able to develop products and get premises for their joke shop before they left Hogwarts in OOTP. I agree about the Harry/Ginny relationship build up. You only get a bit of a hint twice in OOTP while all other hints from previous books was completely left out of all but the 2nd movie. Final point. About the movie losing money. Part of that is possibly attributable to one thing...Umbridge. A lot of people will tell you that OOTP is their least favorite book and I think that's mainly due to how much they hate Umbridge. They don't like reading about her or watching her. Plus a lot of people don't like the political part of the book or movie.

This film is Draco's. This is the film where his character arc begins at rock bottom then, over the course of this year at Hogwarts, Draco begins a redemptive climb that continues through to the last film. Draco is the victim of his upbringing; his father's influence is clear. Lucius is not the best father, being demanding and emotionally distant. This has caused Draco to idolize and emulate his father, subconsciously trying to win his unobtainable love. As a result of his father's influence, Draco has learned to be a cowardly bully while also being smug and elitist. The Malfoys are 'old money' and purebloods. They have always enjoyed high social status and political influence. With Lucius being found out as a Death Eater (Voldemort supporter), he has suffered the scandal of being arrested, tried, and sent to Azkaban. The Malfoy social prominence and political influence is gone; the family have become pariahs. Draco is full of rage, and he blames Harry and Dumbledore for what has happened to his family. He is ready to do whatever he can to make them pay. Meanwhile, Voldemort is furious with Lucius. Lucius did NOTHING for 12 years to find Voldemort and help bring him back to physical form and power after his body was annihilated from the Death Curse rebounding from baby Harry. Then, after Voldemort tricks Harry into the Dept of Mysteries, Lucius screws up getting the Prophesy from Harry AND BREAKS IT. It becomes such a disaster that Voldemort's return is revealed to the Minister of Magic himself! Voldemort responds to Lucius's failures by taking over Malfoy Manor for use as his headquarters, uses the cellar to imprison and torture people like Ollivander, then makes Draco a Death Eater with instructions to set up a Vanishing Cabinet in Hogwarts and then kill Dumbledore. Voldemort figures Draco will fail and then Voldemort will kill Draco, devastating Lucius in the process. And if Draco succeeds, the family will be shunned by the rest of the Wizarding World. But as Draco attempts to kill Dumbledore, he instead nearly kills Katie, Ron, Harry, and Professor Slughorn. By this time, he has shuffled off most of his father's influence. He's seen how innocent people can get hurt and at home, at Malfoy Manor, he sees that Voldemort and his Death Eaters are terrible, dangerous people. He has a change of heart, though he knows failure means his death. The sad part is that Draco has no one to confide in. His involvement in Voldemort's plans have isolated him, and he has no one to go to to seek advice or help. He now realizes he's on the wrong side of things, that his father was on the wrong side of things, that his father brought this all on himself and on Draco. The one real tragedy was Harry following Draco into the lavatory, wand at the ready, and totally overlooking the fact that Draco was weeping in desperate regret. If Harry had stopped to find out why Draco was weeping, this would be a different story.

Unfortunately this movie, although it captures the dark atmosphere, misses many central points of the book's story. For example, the various memories of young Voldemort are missing, which are much more than that of the orphanage and that of Slughorn. The book includes a main part which is, in fact, an investigation by Harry and Dumbledore regarding Voldemort's past and the possible location of the Horcruxes. The part about the Halfblood Prince - literally the TITLE of this chapter - was cut. Harry, Hermione and Ron make many theories during the story: Harry admires him because he circumvents the rules and achieves great results, Hermione is suspicious, Ginny worries, which is why in the end it is shocking that the prince is Snape himself. Most of the scenes in which we can imagine Draco's desperation as he tries to complete his mission are missing and even the initial scene with Snape, Bellatrix and Narcissa is much, much less intense. A really interesting initial scene is missing in which Fudge reaches the UK Prime Minister to inform him of the chaos in the magical world and we understand the relationship between the muggle institutions and those of the wizards. The intensity of this story is incredible in the book, and unfortunately the movie focuses on parts that have very little to offer compared to that. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend you the book. The other movies are more or less well adapted, but this one is truly a disaster, no matter how enjoyable and visually beautiful it is. Sadly, the same could be said for some important - and I mean VERY important - parts of the last book.

@@GrandpaCurtisReacts any of the development she had before half blood Prince wasn’t mentioned in the movies. Also the wardrobe and makeup crew really didn’t try to make her look appealing. Not that Bonnie isn’t good looking but they made her look so plain. Straight plain hair, minimal makeup, and then when you add on bad directing it just made their romance awkward. When it comes to Dan and Bonnie, I can say at least Bonnie tried, but Dan looks so uncomfortable every time he’s doing a solo scene with Bonnie. He said before how he saw her like a little sister cos they’d been on the films since they were kids and Bonnie was younger than him. It’s just not believable that they were into each other
