@brittn24104 жыл бұрын
I actually really love the Percy Jackson series more than Harry Potter ( a feat I didn’t originally think was possible) but I think the reason I ended up loving it more was going forward into the Heroes of Olympus series there was so much focus on other characters, fleshing out the world so much deeper and giving other characters their story as well and having a point where Percy actually has to learn that he can’t protect and save everyone, his fatal flaw being excessive loyalty to the point where he would let the world fall to save a friend. I’ve never before seen a series where the main hero has to learn that they have to step back and not be the main hero. It’s always about how they need to step up, take the burden to shield everyone else, and with Percy, he had his times of stepping up to shield because that’s his nature, his fatal flaw actually, but in the end the last time we really saw him, he had to learn to allow the other heroes to step up and take the risks they were fated to take instead of rushing in and taking all the danger on himself to protect them.

@brittn24102 жыл бұрын
@@greglynas52 yup. And with Rick writing another Percy centric story, I’ll be honest I think I’m the only person hoping that he will write Percy and Annabeth a true tragic Greek hero death. I mean we can still do a happy ending, their souls arrive in the underworld where they’re both informed that they’ve actually chosen to be reborn in the past and have successfully completed their 3rd heroes death worthy of Elysium and are rewarded by an eternity together in the Isles of the Blest. There could be a flashback to show that they knew each other in all of their past lives, died together in all their past lives, and chose to be reborn together each time, telling each other before rebirth that they promised to find each other. I think it would be the perfect final end to their story.

Honestly, a lot of it is because they are both based on Greek Mythology. The Percy Jackson series literally revolves around it. So it would make sense that there are similarities. So Percy Jackson is not a Harry Potter knockoff. There's no wizards, theres no magic (Hard to explain. No spells/magic that can make you float of something, only stuff from the gods. It works way different). The plot is also way different, if you don't focus on little details. Not hating on either of the series, by the way. They both are amazing.

What I love most about Rick Riordan is how he was able to create a lot more books that somehow simultaneously stand on its own as a series and pays homage to the original PJO characters wheter in cameos or spin-offs. I also love how he also used his influence to help other writers to be put into the scene (with mythology based books) with Riordan Presents (I absolutely love Aru Shah, unfortunately I only have until book 2 since my local bookstore has not yet restock since the pandemic).

They can also upload it unlisted at first to give only certain chosen people access to the video through the link. One thing I find really cool about Percy Jackson: it isn’t just inclusive of race, religion and identity, Uncle Rick also makes the effort to add in small things like Jason needing glasses, and Magnus being left-handed. As someone who wears glasses, and has experienced a bit of discrimination for being a leftie before, I really appreciate it. I know it’s not as big a thing as maybe the LGBTQ community, but it still feels nice
@gio-ve7vn2 жыл бұрын
the glasses thing! not so much discrimination for that but it's so rare to have a person w glasses that isn't a nerdy tech geek or whatever and is just... a guy. an athletic guy at that. basically unheard of. usually glasses are used as writer shorthand and are not treated as an actual assistive device. Haven't read Magnus Chase but that's also pretty cool!

@-cosmixnebulae-73982 жыл бұрын
He COULD also be compared to Hades. I think Dionysus is just way more apathetic, while Hades, having a life of misery, would compare more to Snape. It's the journey of the hero with each story digging into their own unique lores and creatively making it have their own identities. This is why the stories are very similar, but at their core, they have enough merit to be their own stories. Otherwise the publishers of Percy Jackson would have just denied the publication and called it a Harry Potter knock off lol.

That's actually very accurate! However, while it took Harry Potter 7 Books to tell the whole story, it took Percy Jackson only 5 books to tell the whole story. However, the final Percy Jackson book leaves a huge opening for a follow up series of another 5 books. These give the fans more books to enjoy! Also, Harry uses his invisibility cloak to hide himself and the mist grants the Demigods the ability to hide their magic from mortals. It also hides the monsters.

@Bahr_20063 жыл бұрын
You know, after watching your videos and getting acquainted to the Percy Jackson series, I was already picking up on similarities between Harry Potter and Percy Jackson: Both are kind children introduced into a world of magic and myth in their preteen years. (Harry and Percy) Both grow up throughout the series. (11-17 and 12-16) Both have a timid yet loyal male sidekick, and an intelligent female sidekick. (Ron & Hermione and Grover & Annabeth) Both rival a blonde-haired teenager throughout the series who serve as a conduit for the dark lord. (Draco Malfoy and Luke Castellan) Both have an enemy who disguises as teachers (Barty Crouch Jr. as Professor Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody and a Fury as Mrs. Dodds) Both series are part of a bigger media franchise (The Wizarding World and the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles) The list goes on. I've just listed some obvious ones.
