The food you had is Masala Dosa. •Dosa - Crepe or Pancake made with soaked Rice and split black gram batter that's fermented over night. • The stuffing inside the Dosa is called as masala or Aloo ( Potato ) stuffing with spices and onions and not Dal. • Dal is any lentil or split grain or a dish made using the lentil. • We don't call the gravies given along as sauces in India. •Papads or Papadam is either eaten as a snacker or along with rice for a crunch. In Kerala people do smash a papad along with a milk based sweet dessert known as Payasam usually had after a heavy meal in the afternoon. Papadam is not eaten along with Dosa.

I just had a meal at McDonald's here in the US for $ 8.53. The fries(chips) were cold and hard. The hamburger was more bread than any meat on it. It was just awful!!! I kept thinking of my first Indian meal, Biryani, on my flight to Mumbai some 20+ years ago. But I have never forgotten about it! The smell was just divine. It is the most delicious dish I have ever eaten! I have gone back a couple of times and it is the first thing I eat. I long to go back now just to eat it again. I heard Delhi and Hyderabad has some of the best chicken and mutton Biryani....
@GoodPalate2 жыл бұрын
Yes Delhi does have a couple of old restaurants that serve some good Biryanis and same goes for Hyderabad. On a whole from north to south you will find biryani and each state has its own slight variations in terms of Biryani. If you ever plan to travel to India just let me know. I will guide you accordingly. My experties on food and places would be for Mumbai city , Kerala and a bit about Goa. 🙂 I have seen videos by Davidsbeenhere, Vlope, I am foodie, India ( Chad and Joy) videos of USA and they have loads and loads of Indian restaurants in US. I am guessing in the meanwhile you can binge on the Indian restaurants there, maybe they would have changed the ingredients a bit to accommodate the pallets of USA crowd.

@@GoodPalate wow! How kind of you. People from India are so kind. Biryani......the food of the Gods. I can't wait to travel to India just eat some Biryani. Thank you! We have a couple of restaurants but they are extremely expensive...it over $20 for a plate that is sold for $3.00 to $5.00. We have frozen Biryani tv dinners but it is the most awful think you could eat. I don't know how they sell something so awful. I think they boil the chicken and after it is cooked they add the spices. So the spices are not cooked. You can only taste the garam masala only. The rice is ordinary poor quality rice with yellow food coloring. The only thing good about it is the picture on the box with the picture of the Taj Mahal. It is sad that some American wants to taste Indian food for the first time and they taste this rubbish! This same company makes Butter Chicken which again is just as awful. So wrong!

Hopefully this would change by next year , not even sure 😅😅 Unless Indian government has plans to make the maximum utilisation of tourist visas by giving only 1 month period.. You are most welcome!

Hyderabadi biryani beats all of them,these r bit spicy. But my personal favorite is chennai's local food joint style spiciest chicken biryanis with egg and raita and papad and onion curd salad,bestest combination, this will not get outside tamilnadu. Delhi or Lucknow biryanis are less spicy more royal touch to it,long rices little dry side.. I rarely eat outside biryani because it feels very costly to me according to the amount of biryani we get served,I feel waste of money. My mother cooks excellent biryanis,she knows all the recipes of biryani,we make around 5kg of biryani and it costs us around 800 indian rupees only. It's always better to cook than buying. But for non Indians it will b hard nut to cook biryani because of the long and difficult process of making it and to know the quantity and timing of masalas and ingredients are the keys,very time consuming in a sense and some say it's the easiest meal to cook that's y akbar Bradshah introduced this meal to his army back in 1526.
