Could you explain it?

@@AmoebyI’m guessing it’s a literal translation. Don’t know German but for instance in Spanish “No se nada” means literally “I don’t know nothing.”

@@Amoeby Sure. There was an American TV show Hogan's Heroes(1965-1971) where one of the characters, Sgt. Schultz(John Banner) had a catchphrase "I know nothing!". Banner was Austrian-American and he gave the "I know nout-thing!" a very distinct sound. The thing was his character always knew but the other character's always paid him off so he was uncomfortably lying every time he said the catchphrase.

There is swiss german. Its like german but different. Swiss ppl understand the germans but the germans have a hard time understanding swiss german.

The Swiss speak different languages. Among them is Swiss German (similar to German, but like an older dialect that's hard to understand for Germans), French and Itialian (and very few speak Rhaeto-Romance). I think Harstem ment Swiss German when he was asking "do you speak swiss" as he speaks a bit of German and it's the most common language in Switzerland.
@OriginalDankness5 күн бұрын

And a whacky wild combination of those languages commonly called swiss-... which makes it as close to a language as you can get before just being one. There's languages much closer to each other in Syntax than that and are still different languages

Typically if either of you just speak dutch/German a Swiss person would understand most of what ur saying no?
@davidmuller15544 күн бұрын
German is close enough to Swiss German that it's possible to understand. Also german is tought in Swiss schools and used in writing and formal speak like politics. But I as a Swiss German native do not understand any Dutch. I can guess a lot of words and I also think the intonation sounds very similar to Swiss German.
