Harstem really missed a chance to deep dive into an in depth analysis of the report form. Let's take the time to really analyze what Magus was saying. Firstly, he starts with the word "zerg." He was very much correct, as there was zerg on this map. Complaint form is so far 100% accurate. Next, Magus adds in the word "tech." Now, harstem did cover that the extent of tech used by the zerg was from a spawning pool, so perhaps Magus instead was using the word "tech" as a short version of "techniques." In this case, he might be referring to the spine rush technique that was employed against him in this wonderful replay. So "tech" could be argued to be 50% accurate. Finally, Magus concludes with the word "op." Im pretty sure an easy AI would have done a better job responding to the rush than our friend Magus did. The immortal "micro" was negative micro, and he just kindof sat on a ton of minerals not doing anything. Then he builds a ton of observers for no real reason and loses a bunch of them in amazing fashion. Any "technique" would be OP if you just observe it doing its thing without fighting back against it. "op" gets a 0% accuracy rating. Now we just multiply the accuracy rates together, 100% x 50% x 0% and get a result of 0% accuracy. In conclusion, it isn't IMBA, Magus just sucks.

I can't believe Magus doesn't realize how much Gnarl hurt himself by overcommitting to the spine rush/contain. He's still ahead until ~7:22 and if he just kept calm he probably could have kept his advantage while breaking out of the contain. I think 2 oracles would have just broken the Zerg's non-existent economy. But instead he wanted to throw away immortals to spines and zerglings after he had enough to prevent the spines from moving up the ramp.
@Deto128 Жыл бұрын
Oracles feel like too much of a gamble, though. If you move out with them and the zerg has a spore or two you're basically super dead because you didn't spend your resources on breaking the contain
@xitaris5981 Жыл бұрын
@@Deto128 Gnarl already built 8 spines, 5 spores, 1 hatch and 2 queens to build a contain. So that's 14 drones and 2,475 minerals, so if you can get them to sacrifice even _more_ drones and minerals for defense then they're going to have a dead economy. Look at 5:48, Magus has almost double the worker count and if they force 2 spores and kill 0 drones, then Magus still killed 12.5% of the economy. But at plat they're definitely going to kill more than 0 drones even if they had spores and no micro on the oracles. But even if he chose to focus on _just_ breaking the siege, he had a lot of options and by the time he did his opponent would have finally caught up to his economy, but he would have the tech advantage so he would have broke even imo.

@inmundo6927 Жыл бұрын
@@HellecticMojo presence of spores along with proxy Hatch, along with a gazillion spines means he cant possibly have money for more than just 1 spore at home, and maybe not even that, judging by the extreme focus on the contain. Also, not making oracles because he has no vision to determine whether to build them or not, is not going to give you vision either.... Gotta take some risks eventually. (plus, if its true he didnt have much at home, then the SOLE PRESENCE of the oracles will force him to build EVEN MORE spores.. and consequentially still hurt his economy even further) Again, he was not blind. 1+1. You cant possibly have 10 spines and 3 spores at min 4 and at the same time have much going at your main base. Just not mathematically possible. You can get information from "logical deductions" as much as with plain vision.
@xitaris5981 Жыл бұрын
It's not like Magus can complain that Gnarl was an amazing opponent. Keep in mind that Gnarl swapped into a macro focus after the contain and then DIDN'T MAX OUT UNTIL ~14:30. For point of reference, in ViBElol's B2GM series that focuses on defensive macro, players are expected to max out at 11 minutes IN BRONZE, in plat the expectation is 8:45. If you want to argue that he was delayed by his proxy hatch, he was finished with it around ~5 minutes and already had queens and 2 hatch, so was poised for his economy to explode, so he should be able to do it by 11-12 minutes as a plat player.

As protoss you should use the minerals for either more economy (nexus/probe), more zealots (warp gate/pylons), or more defense (cannon/batteries). It is the basic thing also called "mineral dump". I think building cannon/battery defense and warping zealot/stalkers on the other side of the map (by getting prism and 4 warp gates) is the best defense against this mass spine push. Should hard counter his build easily. Once you have the zerg bases destroyed, spread your zealots to every base so that he can't expand anywhere while making colossi with range or tempest to clean the blockade.

As a low level player, breaking any kind of early contain - spine or bunker rush - feels very difficult. I would have liked to see an explanation of what a correct response would have looked like.
@mothrahlurker788 Жыл бұрын
Ok so first off he had a complete freewin on his hands since he opened with a forge. He could have built cannons behind his wall (so that spines can't hit it until the creep goes further) and then build batteries behind. Since the zerg made spores, too few lings and executed the rush too slowly it would have given him a secure 2base setup where he only needs to rebuild the gateway and cybercore. It would have been even clearer if he hadn't opened so poorly and managed to lose 5 probes to a pool first, if you micro that correctly and chrono out an adept you're supposed to not lose any. From the point on that he has2 bases and a 20 worker advantage he can basically just do whatever and kill his opponent because he just has twice as many units. Even after failing so completely and losing his natural. Just making a prism and flying it across the map, then harassing with adepts in the prism would have done enough damage to come back into the game. The zerg didn't have the queens at home to be able to defend a prism, nor the ling count to be able to deal with it. If he then clears the spines at the same time it would be much better. Or even just at the very minimum have a prism to not lose multiple immortals to the lings+spines while trying to clear the contain. He could have taken his natural several minutes earlier with 0 losses and then done counter damage with an immortal drop immediately.

Then take four probes, and drop them off wit hte prism, and hten tell the mto go to various base localtions... send prism,, directly to the opponeents base, and then spam zealots... so the eco is damaged as much as possible... zealots are great against lings, but typically you can get the spawning pool with 4 zealots in a wave of 6 produced, and pick up micro form buidligns and hten force a re make of the spawning pool stops all aggression... adaptive strats... attempting to fight an investment that heavy wold be to costly.. so microing around it effeciently while building a top notch defence is better, thus even losing the main, you shoudl havea secondary nexus up and can pool group your main probes and even warp them out, which isn't a bad idea if you take the gold on this map, since yo uwill then mind +1 probe per 2 mining gold pathc basically. lol its liek you just improved your mim ing by 30% just for going gold.

"Okay, he sees the creep. Does he respond?" I assure you: he does not consciously see that creep.

It wasnt the worst, it was the most one sided. The zerg played really well

iirc, the marine episode was the most 1 sided of all. but yeah, this was really one sided. it looks like magus probably doesn't even know what unit does what.

i agree that zerg is the most imba race in the game. the better the player the stronger zerg is, even serral cant even use the full power of them. But how can you complain abt this game if the reason you survived to 20 mins was because zerg no eco for 5 mins straight 💀💀

This was a funny video, but frankly your reference to Duolingo was that part that made me really laugh out loud.

Your comment about seeing a replay that Magus wins made me think IODIS submissions where the viewer wins rather than loses would probably be more interesting.

Zergtech OP sounds like a drug used to treat the sniffles but with a list of side effects that might cripple or kill you.

Given that Magus had a 10 observer build order, my theory is that, like me, Magus is just an observer of the game, and not an actual SC2 player.
