Part 2: • Hartbeat - The East (2...
Tony first looks at some coats of arms of British families, and then looks at mons (Japanese heraldic symbols). He also explains the mathematics of circular mons which consist of 3 or 5 segments.
Tony and Margot visit Holmer Green Middle School in Buckinghamshire, and The Japanese School in Acton, London. They watch the children in both schools making pictures of the East, and compare their different styles.
In "Hartbeat Handy Hints", Margot demonstrates a method for copying a shape, by cutting out a template and drawing round it. Tony demonstrates a different method - putting chalk on the back of a drawing, and then tracing over the drawing to produce a chalk copy on some paper underneath.
Margot makes some "diamonds" using mirror card (sorry about the short break in the recording).
Finally, Tony displays his cardboard Japanese samurai sword, with a sword guard in the shape of a crab. He makes a wax rubbing of the sword guard, and uses blue ink to develop the picture.
