The reason why I also prefer relaxed is also a technical one: texture stretch. If fingers are perfectly straight, their UVs have the least texture stretch only in that straight pose. But during deformation, this pose or keyframe is more rarely used than a natural pos/rot, and the fingers are needing to cover both rotational directions anyway. So, making them natural, kind of an inbetween between stretched out and fist, makes the texture work better both ways. Whereas with straight fingers, you kind of inherently introduce the most uv distortion you could possibly have onc3 fingers actually need to deform. I assume that straight pose is just for the convenience of riggers, to more comfortably place bones, but imho it offers little else.

Never thought of using Zspheres for the fingers, I have always used spheres, great video!

Awesome video as always dude, thanks for putting in this work! Think we might see some prop/hard surface type stuff in zbrush on the channel at some point?

Thanks! Definitely want to look at props and hard surface. Likely some videos on rocks and that sort of thing. I’ve also been thinking about the best way to tackle zmodeler since it’s arguably one of the most important parts of zbrush for both hard surface and organic

Another awesome video, thanks a bunch for chucking this out into the world! If you're taking suggestions for videos, down the line would love to hear a bit of how you got to where you are, education, work and your opinions on getting into the industry. Love your videos mate, keep it up.

Thanks Littlecroak! I could definitely do a video about that. I wasn’t sure if people would be interested in that sort of thing but ultimately I want to help make 3d more approachable for people and show there are many ways into the industry!

@@hartgameart That sounds pretty darn rad. As an amateur the industry kind of seems like a bit of a black box sometimes, so getting the inside scoop on how to approach it (education, portfolios etc) would be super awesome!
