Harvard recently fired a residence hall dean, law professor Ronald Sullivan.
Some students had complained that because Sullivan took accused sexual harasser Harvey Weinstein as a client, they felt "unsafe."

John Stossel interviews Alan Dershowitz, who says Harvard's decision endangers academic freedom.
"They're lying," Dershowitz tells Stossel about the students who claim to feel unsafe. "They don't feel unsafe. They've learned the language of the New McCarthyism."
"He didn't get fired from his professor job," Stossel points out to Dershowitz. "Don't the students have a right to say, 'look, we're living with this guy. He creeps us out because of what he does. Get somebody else.'"
Dershowitz responds: "If they could say that, they could say it about somebody who supports Donald Trump for President, somebody who is a Muslim, somebody who's gay, somebody who's Jewish."
He adds: "We need to educate our students that free speech is for everybody. Due process is for everybody."
Fired dean Ronald Sullivan often represents unpopular people -- not just the accused sexual assaulter, but accused murderers and terrorists. He's explained why: "In order for the rights of all of us, the rights of the guilty and the innocent alike to be protected, we have to live in a system where we vigorously, vigorously defend the guilty."
Stossel agrees, only through that process can we be confident that the people punished are really guilty.
Harvard's student protesters didn't seem to care about that.
"Because of Dean Sullivan's decision to represent - I don't feel welcome here," one said.
"These students would have fired John Adams," Dershowitz responds, "because he had defended the people who were accused of the Boston Massacre."
Adams, a Harvard graduate, defended British soldiers who fired at Americans -- and he got most of the soldiers acquitted.
Adams defended them even though he opposed the British, and risked his life by helping lead the Continental Congress in its revolution against Britain.
"And yet," Dersowiitz notes, "he thought the right to represent somebody transcends any of these other ideological or political issues."
Later in life, Adams called his defense of the British soldiers: "one of the best pieces of service I ever rendered my country. Judgment of death … would have been as foul a stain upon this country as the executions of … witches."
At the Marginal Revolution blog, Tyler Cowen writes, "Harvard is basically right … It really is about helping students focus on their studies … removing distractions."
"They say [Sullivan's representation of Weinstein] distracts them. I can see their point … these people live together," Stossel tells Dershowitz.
"I don't see their point at all!" Dershowitz responds. "You live in a world where there are going to be many distractions. You're not going to live in a world where you can determine everything according to your own view. If you want to do that, move to China or Iran … [if] you want to go to an American university, you have to learn how to deal with distractions."

@kma3647
@kma3647 5 жыл бұрын
The definition of "elite" is relative. Harvard no longer uses academic rigor as their selection criteria. Since it has been taken over by guilt-ridden SJWs, the new selection criteria is victim status. The greater the victim, the stronger the application. Harvard is still selecting the "elite" applicants. It preferentially seeks out POC, people who engage in non-standard sexual practice (yes, that's shorter than the alphabet acronym), illegals, etc. Grades, test scores, academic honors and awards all mean nothing because they aren't part of the selection criteria anymore. This is, in fact, economic activity. People are competing for limited resources (seats at Harvard). They recognize how the resources are distributed and compete accordingly. The seats can be given based on merit where grades would matter, by SJW standards where victim status matters, or even by reputation where having a rich uncle who went to Harvard and is now a Senator matters. It's still just free market competition.

Most people don't know that the reason he never released the names was that he was under a restraining order from the FBI and he would have been arrested if he did. When my children tell me they believe some side of an argument, I make them debate with me and convince me of the other side of the argument. Figure it will either prove to themselves they were wrong,or harden their belief after they've truly explored the opposing view point. @Paramecium Tollies "people" is obviously a subjective term so I don't know how you expect me to respond to it. I will give you a few examples of defense attorneys who were well respected: 1. John Adams. An example used in the video. A Founding Father who defended British soldiers from bloodthirsty revolutionaries. He was so well respected them he (and his son) were elected President of the United States. 2. Abraham Lincoln. Yeah he was a lawyer. Pretty famous fellow. Very well liked. Was also elected President. 3. Clarence Darrow. One of the hardest working defense attorneys that I can think of. He was well respected by everyone for his constant search for justice.

Enforcer525 Yes, this coddling is not helping these kids in adult bodies mature and have the skills to get through life. Life is hard. Relationships of every type are hard. (Primarily due to immaturity, not just difference of opinion.) Tragedy occurs. Illnesses occur. Obstacles pop up that need to be navigated. The economy shifts and changes. And these kids will only know how to cry, “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up!” As if they are disabled due to circumstance or aging. And expect rescue. What happens when they live in an apartment building after college alongside those who make them feel unsafe because of ideological differences? Are they going to disrupt those lives because of their own inability to properly assess true threats? Where does it end? These law students do not understand the concept behind the right to a fair trial, no matter the state of guilt or innocence. And even if all of them are not pre-law... these are the best and brightest in our nation? I’ve seen kids recently who are in that vein, “earning” 4.0’s in high school. They are confident and feel so intelligent and accomplished. They may have the book smarts to receive A’s, yet are so unskilled, and underprepared for the real world. With no common sense or understanding of advanced concepts. Of how to navigate and make sound choices, not emotional choices. And they end up suffering for that. These Harvard students and their ilk are too ignorant to understand the implications of these movements they feel so proud to start/stand for. They cannot see how this faulty logic can eventually come back to restrict them in the future. Limiting liberty of some limits liberty of all. Using emotional appeal and praise/ego-boosting to brainwash a generation. Dangerous. True critical thinking is nearing extinction. What is taught today as critical thought is merely manipulation and molding minds. Using altruism to coat it, making it easier to swallow the poison. Or rather, the virus, as it spreads and mutates, affecting countless others, not just the original source. I’m trying to help my children be immune to this plague. Only time will tell if I am successful. Hopefully there are enough of us out there doing the same thing, to counter this madness.

The communist won the cold war I think cause if it isn't already here now it is just around the corner. Our people must restore the foundation of this Wonderful Republic. It is up to us to make America Great again and we don't need any elites or politicians to accomplish it. They haven't done anything but add fuel to the flames. "It's about removing distractions." As a Catholic conservative, I was very very distracted whilst going through college. Every single building had posters and video screens showing things from advocacy groups that subtly implied that I was racist or sexist or otherwise bigoted, to straight up propaganda that outright declared it. Every week there was a march or a protest for a cause I didn't believe in. And yet, I dealt with the distraction, because the colleges don't care about conservatives. This is just another way to silence minorities via mob rule, the only difference is that now the groups have been swapped.

Keep speaking the Truth and proving the Truth, but when a person has been so conditioned for so long, it's hard to turn them back! The problem is the left have been "reconditioning" people since WW2 by buying up media corporations, putting in leftist teachers and professors, and taking over text book publishing companies! They run and own over 85% of ALL Media and other Corporations! The straw that broke the Camels back was when the last administration (2008) passed a law to NOT buy, sell or teach with used books written prior to 1985! Also those books that were published prior to 1985 were re-written at our expense! Why? Well the excuse was that because all of the books written prior to 1985 had "lead" in the ink and would be harmful to children! What they forgot to mention is the only way you can get lead poisoning is if you lick or eat the pages!! I graduated by 1985 and never got lead poisoning and neither did my parents or Grandparents!! www.city-journal.org/html/new-book-banning-10533.html What needs to happen is some of these companies like CNN need to be bought out and taken over along with other media outlets so more truth can get out without Facebook, Twitter and Google/KZbin banning people for speaking Truth! But this boil is coming to a head and is about ready to pop!! We might just have a civil war around the corner if some more of these people don't wake up!!

Women should not be in infantry, or any other explicitly offensive or defensive positions. The Marines and Army both tried it; almost none of the women recruited could even pass SOI or Fort Benning, and both of the ones that did were disciplined from their respective branches for fraternization, and none of the women have ever deployed to a hazard duty area.
