I finished my bachelor's degree while on active duty in the military (I was in my early 30's). I often had to correct professors who were dead wrong. I love math and aced statistics. The professor had a doctorate in English yet was teaching statistics, and OFTEN ran formulas in front of the class with me raising my hand and explaining why she was incorrect with her concluding results (I felt bad). One more example: My Planetary Geology professor wrote the course textbook, requiring us to buy his book for his class. On the final exam, I told him 11 of the test questions were wrong, so he allowed me to challenge him in front of fellow students, using his own textbook. He had to throw the questions out which helped other students. I was already a straight-A student, so he didn't understand why I wanted to challenge the test questions. Answer...it's about having "principle" and ethics. Then there was the 450 lb. Research Writing professor who had to ride a scooter and was always telling us about her Vegan lifestyle...but that is a story for another day. Ugh...college professors.
@singingstars50065 жыл бұрын
English degree teaching statistics? 😳 The fact she went into English to begin with says her mind doesn't work in ways that allow her to do higher level courses like statistics. Somehow this reminds me of my high school student teachers, particularly the one teaching advanced mathematics. She came across as low IQ and the students took advantage to the max. The course material was beyond her and so her teaching was non sequitur. I honestly don't know how she even graduated high school, let alone state university. It made me realize that a degree means nothing. Where you got it means more.

Last semester in college, I took a mandatory writing course where I read many academic articles about gender theory, race theory, etc. Many of those articles were legitimately interesting. But in general I was left with a really sour taste of academic humanities. Often times I felt that the authors cared more about increasing their number of publications than actually providing useful or insightful commentary. There was simply no way that they could legitimately believe some of their arguments, which usually left very little room for nuance. I mean do people really believe that gender is entirely independent of biology, because this seems to be the conclusion most gender theory papers come to. And even if the arguments were nuanced, they were only in conversation with other academic articles, with little to no connection to actual human problems. I appreciated this video because, to me, this experiment highlights just how ridiculous so many of these fields are. If anything, I am grateful that that class renewed my appreciation of the rigidity and usefulness of STEM.

Even the liberal arts used to prepare you for the world by teaching you essential skills on HOW to critically think, read, and write, but now it seems as if these professors are obligated to teach students on WHAT to think. As a public school teacher, I once had to teach from a 9th grade civics textbook, that, in very plain language, explained that Democrats represented the common people while the Republicans represented rich people. The textbook mention one other third-party that it vaguely described in unfavorable terms as well. After years of correcting bias textbooks, it took witnessing my own 6th grade daughter getting slowly crushed by a system that is set up to indoctrinate and force conformity, for me to say that's enough. I chose to resign that year and we were fortunate enough, via lottery enrollment system, to put our daughter into a good Montessori Charter School. We desperately need full blown educational choice in America. The indoctrination starts at a young age, continues in college, and is perpetuated by fake media.

Serious issues these are. For myself, along the way in completing my undergraduate Clinical Sciences degree, especially once I was on my way through years 3-4 and had to submit Research-type assessment tasks (relatively small 3,500 Word Lit. Reviews and the like, not actual original PhD Theses' or anything), I became convinced Post-modern Scientific Scholarship is rife with deceit. Which is why 'Ethics' has always been such an integral part of Academic Research there. Everyone who is at least marginally cogniscant of the true power that contemporary science possesses knows it is capable of really deceiving the masses with its big new words and its concepts that are so difficult to mentally grasp by the average man or woman. Being allowed to invent my own terminology as I attempted to articulate my newly discovered findings toward the end of that initial undergrad. Clinical Sciences course, I found that Post-modern Science is not what it used to be in the days of Freud, Bacon, Galileo, and Newton, or even the more Modern-era Albert Einstein. Those who believe in their own little minds that Darwin's work is being used honestly by those in charge of the institutions and the curriculum there are being deceived. The majority of those in charge of the Universities today are Godless, Egotistical, Selfish, Money-hungry, and Heartless, with Numb Consciences that are practicing wilful ignorance on an extraordinary scale. They have no idea what they're doing to themselves, and to all who choose to ignore the truth of what's happening here today by following them down. May God have mercy on their souls because this is serious "Life and Death" stuff.

No, he's not. He's a partisan hack who's an embarrassment to fishwrappers. There's no "fraud in academia" that this so-called project exposed. It "exposed" fallibility, or at worst, confirmation bias. Quick, light the torches. Swear to Og, if right-wingers committed half the brainpower they waste on little oneupmanship games like these into something constructive, we'd have warp drive, the cure for cancer, and every missing sock that vanished in the dryer by now.

I wrote to the Dean of Portland in support of professor Boghossian when he was going before the IRB to determine his fate. I understand that he maintained his position with Portland but I suspect he may be “gagged” as a result of any settlement determination in order to maintain his job. WE must spread the word about this self perpetuating fraudulent academic grievance study phenomena. I have 3 sons who attended college and they tell me this garbage is pervasive across University culture and if you dare speak up you will be ostracized and pull a bad grade in the class. So, many students just tell their profs what they want to hear. Nice job covering this topic here John👍

I worked at a major university that received $400m in federal research grants annually. The vice chancellor of research posted fliers in the elevators of the research towers warning his researchers that fraudulent research was a punishable offense. That is how common fraud in research had become. My brother worked in a major federal higher ed facility and he old me 30 years ago that the researchers he worked for were publishing fraudulent papers with faked results. He was astounded, but no one cared. Twenty years ago, I applied for a NSF grant to build a high-speed research network. The grant was for $150k. After I had finished he project, I had $10k left over. I contacted the NSF and they refused to take the money back. No one ever tried to return research grant funds I was told. The waste, fraud, and abuse in federal research funding will one day be a big, big story. It is bigger than the $1T student education debt scandal.

Stossel you should do a collab with Kent Hovind. #weWantMoreStossel
@Jay_Scott_Raymond5 жыл бұрын
John Stossel: Reporter on big government and libertarian issues. Generally pretty fair and tries to get both sides of an issue. Kent Hovind: Young earth creationist bloviator with a fake degree from a diploma mill. Spent about 10 years in prison for tax evasion. So far out on the lunatic fringe even most other young earth creationists want nothing to do with him. Sorry but I'm not seeing much reason for a "collab". Perhaps you meant a debunking? I do agree that the more Stossel the merrier. I miss his old show on Fox Business.
@b.51915 жыл бұрын
@@Jay_Scott_Raymond I'm not seeing your point, your comment is clouded with too many ad hominem attacks on Dr. Hovind.
@Jay_Scott_Raymond5 жыл бұрын
@@b.5191 Really? I thought it was pretty obvious. My descriptions show the contrast between the two in order to demonstrate there is no basis for a "collab". Here, maybe if I simplify my descriptions it'll help you. John Stossel: Fairly well reputed reporter and political commentator. Mr. Kent Hovind: Guy who thinks the earth is 6500 years old. Does that help? BTW, you're misusing "ad hominem" here. An ad hominem attack isn't just using insults, its using insults to avoid addressing an opponent's arguments. I'm not dealing with any Mr. Hovind's "arguments" at all, that's not the point, I'm simply pointing out certain facts about him that make him doing a "collab" with Stossel dubious. Besides, with the exception of the word "bloviator", which I concede is simply my opinion, everything I said there about him is verifiably true.
@b.51915 жыл бұрын
@@Jay_Scott_Raymond Yes, that helps and that is an honest comparison, thanks. The reason I made that particular comment on this particular video is that Dr. Hovind is one of the few champions against one of the greatest academic hoaxes of all time - the "theory" of evolution. That's why a collab would be so amazing because Dr. Hovind has spent over 20 years tirelessly fighting against the mainstream religion of evolution. I use the word religion because it requires faith to believe life came from inanimate material. Nice to have this discussion with you, I appreciate you keeping it civil (unlike Mr. Aron Ra).
@Jesses0015 жыл бұрын
@@b.5191 If you do not know what a "theory" is, then maybe you should not use the word. I doubt MR. Hovind and Stossel would find common ground on that topic, or the young earth.

I used to be afraid that I wasn’t smart enough for college. Now, I think I’m too smart because these colleges just accepted these findings. The Mein Kampf one especially gets me because it proves no one in academia checked to see if there is any plagiarism.

My gf is a phD candidate at a huge state school in Southwest. She is working in the College of Education. I help her by reviewing her work and reading her assignments to help (she is a non-native speaker). You would be amazed at how pervasive the social justice issues are in every facet of learning. Nothing is written or researched that doesn't address gender, ethnicity, or history of oppression. It is a huge waste of time- but you have to do it, to get through the program. I wish we could all just put down our hatchets and swords and go back to learning. Don't make this about politics. I dislike Trump, I'm not conservative. The victim/oppressor narrative is just exhausting and so, so bad for our children and our future.
