No such thing as a Harvard entrance exam and this problem is far easier to simply do the long form math and add the numbers. Took me under a minute to multiply out.

Short cut: sum is equal to (8(exp 6) - 1) / (8 - 1) = 262,143 / 7 = 37,449. Why waste time? This isn't Harvard anyway 🤣

just a simple geometric series, an average 16 year old can do this definitely not harvard for sure

Thanks--that is a very interesting approach. But I don't think Harvard has an entrance exam.
