I’d like to applaud Dr. Swain for defending her work. I applaud her not because she’s African American, not because she’s a woman, but because she’s a scholar and an author and she wasn’t weak or willing to have a charlatan steal her intellectual labor. Yup, Harvard is trying very hard to cover up Gay’s plagiarism issues. Imagine no one in their faculty or board checked her dissertation for plagiarized content. They most likely just accepted her academic paper hook, line and sinker because she’s their celebrated affirmative action hire. Meanwhile, Harvard students who slogged through their dissertations are given every scrutiny possible, every sentences, paragraphs, footnotes and bibliographies run through a plagiarism checker to catch if they copied other sources and presented it as their own. But with Gay, the university refused to make a statement about it and instead double down on supporting her. So what does that make Harvard? An Ivy League of Plagiarism. It’s good she resigned. She should have done it sooner when that plagiarism allegations came up. But she’s so thick faced and without honor, especially when she stole the academic work of another black woman. She and Harvard have no shame at all.

My opinion about Harvard University and Dr. Claudine Gay's resignation: The standards bar for hiring were lowered. Dr. Gay was a Diversity hire... i.e. Standards were lowered to appoint a Black Female as Harvard President. There were many other better qualified candidates who were better accomplished and published who were not selected because they were White, Male, Conservative, etc. I suspect Harvard made the decision to hire a black female BEFORE applications were even reviewed and interviews were conducted. Furthermore, the standards bar for removal were raised. Harvard would have fired a White Male weeks before Dr. Gay resigned. Plagiarism is taken very serious at a Doctorate level ... you simply can't repeatedly say that you "neglected" to cite sources. The sheer number of clear plagiarism examples cited against Dr. Gay would not be tolerated from a PhD grad student at any decent University ... let alone from the President of Harvard. Not to mention her outrageous testimony to Congress! Harvard's position that "Free Speech" is practiced at the University is absolutely false. Conservative speakers are shouted off campus (if even permitted). Anyone on campus against Affirmative Action/Racial Quotas/Race Normalization, etc. (now labeled the more palatable "DEI") would be tarred and feathered. Only a Progressive Liberal narrative is permitted. It's become so ridiculous that anyone who evens questions the ability of a Man to get pregnant risks being canceled. To state that Harvard's free speech code allows for anti-semitic protests whilst there is zero tolerance for the tiniest microaggression against a Black or LGBTQ+ group is beyond preposterous.

The “race” angle doesn’t work for me. I was at a university ca. 1970 that had just hired its first black president. There was never any issue of that sort as far as I know. He served nearly a decade then went on to become president of a much larger university. College educated people got past “race” a long time ago, in my experience. There are other issues in play here, but some blacks don’t want to give up the “race” card. What I want is for color not to be a factor at all.

Harvard needs to review her thesis and all academic journal writings for more instances of plagiarism and then consider rescinding the PhD it awarded her, for academic dishonesty. Plagiarism is intellectual theft, stealing the ideas of somebody else and passing them off as one's own original creation. Not taking a firm stand against this diminishes the value of any degree that Harvard has conferred in the past and the ones that it will confer in the future. An example needs to be made of this sort of reprehensible behavior, that academic theft will not be tolerated nor rewarded and that the academic standards professed by this institution are more than just words on paper.
