"I showed you my dog, please marry me." I did get a kick out of this video, but HM64 is one of my nostalgic favorite games. Also is it just me or does Natsume games usually feature a lot of drinking? Also be sure to give Cliff milk or eggs in the winter for spice tea recipe.

The earlier Natsume games had a lot of drinking. Off the top of my head, I think the last time someone was drunk in Harvest Moon was Tree of Tranquility for the Wii. If I recall correctly, in the Story of Seasons remakes, the alcoholic beverages have mostly been replaced by non-alcoholic substitutes. I think I got the spice tea recipe. I'm trying to collect the recipes, but I'm disappointed you can't actually cook in the game.

@@JanelleWaz Yeah, non crafting kind of sucks. I thought it was interesting that they had alcohol in a Nintendo game. Nintendo usually censored such things, and I think they did in the SNES game but otherwise seems like Nintendo of America looked the other way.

My brother and I were so addicted to this game that we had a bet on who could rack up more time in our saved games, he won though, as he played it so much that his world in the game reset itself! I didn’t even know that was possible to be honest

Have you played or ever heard of Dwarf Fortress? It is a free building simulator (although a paid version on Steam), part SimCity, part Sims, part Harvest Moon I believe. It's all ASCii graphics, meaning, the graphics are literally text based. Different coloured letters and symbols- @, d, E, ~, $, etc. means different things like- yourself, dog, Elephant, stream, money, etc. I can not really describe it. You'd have to really look it up on the wiki, but it can be a massive world with a large growing underground fortress/community of dwarves. Not sure if you are a god or just guide their hand some how, but they are basically sims that do things they want or that you direct them to do and they do it to the best of their ability, unless something else pops up to have them change their minds, like needs and wants. They can also get upset, depressed and destroy furniture, go mad and kill other people. Goblins and kobolds attack and later on more things can happen. The simple graphics and extreme longevity nature of it all, has always made me a little squeamish to really sit down and play it. But I try from time to time. Apparently the game keeps track of everything, including dwarven family history. It might be something you like. I believe the free version is still available. You can download free extra tilesets with some graphics. But it is still a bit of a chore to get running. Where as the Steam version I believe, is quite a bit more user friendly, but will cost money.

@@JanelleWaz IIRC it only triggers if you speak to her when it looks like she's sleeping. But when my sister and I played it as kids, we gave her cookies on one of the days where she wasn't rocking, so we connected something totally unrelated as the reason!

Well, I could have been saving the best for last. 😆 Probably why I never played HM64 growing up was probably because I didn't even know it existed until years later. And then when I finally got my own N64, HM64's price was always kinda high. It wasn't until about a year ago I broke down and got it.

I will say this: HM64 is a pretty solid game with some minor annoyances. The Online Community is reasonably justified in that one. It also turns out that if Ellen dies, Elli is harder to marry... not that it matters to me much because Karen demands I propose to her. 🤣

I've never played a harvest moon game. But I've always been curious. Animal Cross became my life for a solid 5 months during the pandemic so I suspect that harvest moon might be enjoyable. Suggestion? Have you ever considered doing a live Waz Plays? Maybe if you can multi task we can ask you stuff in the chat and you can answer? Might make it more fun. I dunno if there's enough of us yet.

If you like Animal Crossing, there's a good chance you'll enjoy Harvest Moon. I'd recommend trying out the older Harvest Moon games (HM: A New Beginning and back) and Story of Seasons (which is Harvest Moon but there was a name change because localization companies changed). The original publisher is still making Harvest Moon games, but they haven't been well received by fans with the exception of Winds of Anthos, the newest one. Not gonna lie: I'm tempted to try my hand at streaming. I still need to work up the courage to actually go live, but I've been strongly considering it lately.

Sorry but I don't normally watch the waz plays vids, I click on them and let the run for your run time but I'm normally cleaning the bathroom or something while they're on. :p

Yeah, that's part of my concern about streaming. I don't know how entertaining I can be for how long, although if enough people are in the chat, that should help fill the lull. My other concern is that I swear while I play games, and I can't bleep that out going live. 😅 Granted, it's still pretty mild. No worse than Star Trek pre-2009.

@@JanelleWaz I dunno, if you try it and it's a disaster you can just delete the evidence. :P Some of it may depend on how well you have your lore down. I'm one that has to google stuff/look it up on memory alpha constantly. Orange River has done some really long streams with not that many people online.

Just discovered a canceled game called Cabbage, that was in development for the 64DD. Apparently it was a pet simulator type game, a cross between Tamagatchi, Ninendogs & Animal Crossings with some of the proponents going to the latters after it's cancelation. Apparently the real time feature would let the creature live on while the system was off. And you could have used the Transfer Pak most likely to carry it with you throughout the day on a Gameboy. Have you played Harvest Moon DS? If so, what are your thoughts on that? I'm reading most reviews are mid or even worse. Something about sprites or switched graphics to the DS, but not much else from the Advance or PS1 version. Although there have been several versions of Harvest Moon, so that might be part of the confusion.

I have both Harvest Moon DS games (HM: DS and HM:DS Cute). It's been awhile since I played it, though. I'd describe it as the gameplay of the GBA game (HM: Friends of Mineral Town) with the town of the GameCube game (HM: A Wonderful Life). I remember enjoying it, but I ran into a glitch which screwed up my save file and I never went back. You might have to check the game's number online to see if it's got the glitch, but I'd recommend avoiding having the Harvest Sprites do your fishing for you. The PS1 game is Back to Nature, which I would consider one of my top Harvest Moon games. I haven't done a review of it, but I have a Beginner's Tips video for it if you want to get an idea of the gameplay.

OH! I just remembered! There are two more Harvest Moon games on the DS: Sunshine Islands and Island of Happiness. I haven't played either, but I heard the controls in Island of Happiness are pretty bad.

Yeah, I think Sunshine Islands and Island of Happiness kinda get lost in the other games in the franchise. I kinda want to play Sunshine Islands at some point, but it's a hard game to find.

That's from the Voyager episode Q and the Grey. Basically, Q wants to have a kid with Janeway, and his Lady Q girlfriend gets jealous. It just hit me that the more I explain it, the weirder it gets.
