That's my Dad in the end crying : ( he didn't like to talk about it. A lot of people do not know but they brought men from Mexico to pick cotton after slavery was abolished and it lasted for a very long time and a lot of the time these men were not paid and threatened to continue working or they would be sent back to Mexico.

My father Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez bracero program "still living". 96 years old and having worked "slaved" for the program in 1942 to 1965. He tells vivid stories of El Sufrimiento que vivio. My father and all the men in this documentary are HEROES. Never since... has there been group of men or women who would willingly sign the contracto to Bandage. God Bless Everyone still living & the countless Now Resting in Eternal Peace.

The US still owes these men and their family money. I wish Mexicans would take a stand as heavy as the Black culture does. I hate to say it but if I’m being completely honest, a lot of Mexicans just stay quiet! because of fear.. and continue to keep working hard without much saying or none at all.. These men don’t show much emotion because it may be represented as a decrease of their machó-ness. No man should have felt stripped away from not feeling like a man or even a human being in general. Their treatment was inhuman and animal like. Even to this day fear is continuously existent. My dad works for himself in landscaping/gardening and still tells me stories of embarrassing like feelings or fearful feelings when policemen are nearby and or give him a hard time by questioning him or just observing him. I wish my people weren’t so afraid.. but the reality is their fear is completely understandable from past traumas the US has created. Prayers to ALL bracero workers. You did not deserve this. Espero que llegue el día de la justicia para estos hombres.

It's actually the Mexican government that owes then money (not that the American government treated them well). 10% of their wages were garnished by the Mexican government so the Braceros would have savings when they arrived home. Most never got this money.

@@amyhornbyuribe9096 The U.S. government owes the Mexican community for illegal deportations of U.S. born citizens. More than 60% of Mexicans were citizens and yes the Mexican government owes them also.

rest in peace to all those who died under the bracero program and all of the exploitative labor practices that preyed on our people. Your sacrifice will never be taken for granted. You can rest now you're in heaven with God. God bless them and all their families. Liberation for all the people and all the workers!

Still going on today...Think about it next time you visit the supermarket to pick your food, or call the landscape contractor to mow your lawn. Anyone who is somehow related to such treatment and abuse should pause and consider the horrible treatment of Animals at the hands of Humans...I do! "Kindness and compassion towards all living things is a mark of a civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture or community of people." - Cesar Chavez

Hey! I’m a high school student who just finished watching this documentary. Not sure what the context is, whether you’re a teacher or a parent, but I can say that it does involve some graphic descriptions of the treatment of braceros, such as dismemberment and deaths. There’s no visuals, but I’d say that this documentary would probably be rated PG-13 due to the descriptions of conditions.

It seems mexico was mentioned a little bit as a invisible guiding hand to some of the negatives that were attached to the Bracero Program even though it wasn't elaborated to much. This all goes back to the founding of Mexico as a country and how it failed to properly unify itself successfully as a nationality. Likewise, the failings to produce a great economy by it's leaders and elected officials is a reason as well for the past and current state of Mexico when it should have one but doesn't for various reasons.

Just my two cents. Open for discussion.

When you take over a land full of Native Americans and they dont understand monetary value in the way of land value, property, taxes this takes years upon years for large swath of people to learn and agree upon on how to run. Most country's who only had indigenous people not run by Caucasian or they have been invaded by Caucasians really didnt help much and the effects of that are still lingering to this day and will continue until you get new generation in office. Man i hope i made sense 🤔🫣.
