An alarming US border policy forced fumigations on migrants at the US-Mexico border.
Help our reporting on hidden histories. Submit a story idea here: bit.ly/2RhjxMy
In 1917, American health officials launched a campaign to use noxious, often toxic chemicals to delouse immigrants seeking to enter at the US-Mexico border. The same practice had caused a fire in an El Paso jail the year before and killed 27 people.
17-year-old Juárez maid Carmelita Torres refused to go through it, sparking a protest of thousands of Mexicans at the El Paso border. Although they briefly shut down the border, the campaign would continue for decades -- and go on to inspire Nazi scientists.

Possibly but one has to ask if this story is even true first or you could ask your family about the kerosene baths..I read up on the topic. Typhus was rampant in a number of Mexican cities where the border crossers lived. The Typhus was transmitted by lice and roaches to human beings. At that time there was no treatment to control Typhus so kerosene was used...Harsh? Yes, did border crosser get in? Yes..today is much different. Biden literally beckoned thousands of Mexican, central and southern Americans to storm the border. In that crowd are Voodoo practicing Haitians and Iranians and even Chinese people all of which could very well have a hugely negative effect on you and I. Many border crossers have COVID and other diseases that remain untreated...what does Biden do, he don't give them the COVID vaccine but under the cover of night he flies them to many cites across the country so you and I can rub elbows with them, touch the same door handles as them and even receive a good cough in the face...what's Biden want to do next? He wants to get every red blooded American who refuses to get the harmful and useless COVID vaccine shot directly into their bodies and put them away in concentration camps!

It is a far right conspiracy to denounce all social progress that is supported by the establishment as "socialist". Sorry but that isn’t true. The textbooks do an excellent job at showing things like this, the college board does a really good job at this stuff as well. Just because you didn’t read the one section on the acts like the Chinese exclusion act, or you forgot about the whole section on the interment camps, doesn’t mean the textbooks didn’t talk about them. It’s rare that something like this isn’t talked about, even if it is mentioned it’s there, it’s a matter of you remembering.

I was very shocked about this, and it brought me to tears. I don’t remember any teachers telling us about it, only about the bracero program that has now turned into something else. VOX by the way you should investigate how all of these farmers stay outside the building called “centro de los trabajadores agrícolas fronterizos”. They sleep on cardboards out there and people still call them braceros because they come to work in agriculture. However, the department doesn’t even try to shelter them... even when they short change them with what they pay them. To be fair, that's because the US is pretty high with a wide variety of cultures and races. Washington is about as close culturally and physically to Texas as the UK is to Serbia. Besides, most of this is a concern to the mexican side of the border since it negatively impacted them and not the US. If mexicans were spraying Americans with kerosene then itd likely be in more history books

@Smooth Skin why should an important documentary like this be on a platform like Netflix, of which you have to pay for?! I think a platform like KZbin (which doesn't always have the best business practices), or something similar that is free and easily accessible by the general public, is the most appropriate place for information that educates the public.
