I've ran into the same issue with the smaller calibers- little to no blood to follow, even on perfect shots.

Your experience is the same as I have with my .243. The wound channel tends to close up and blood loss isn’t as pronounced as with the larger caliber rifles. Lethal yes but makes tracking a wounded deer harder.
