Harvesting Durian farm in Thailand I share our numbers

We are going to harvest our first crop of durian here in Thailand .We bought this farm last year that has 56 durian trees that are 10 plus years old. from what we can see it looks like we will get a twenty plus percent return this year. Don't be fooled it's not that easy there is a lot that goes into growing durian but the results are worth it .

Hi Terry it would be good to know what variety of Durian had the best return for you this season. I'm currently setting up a farm in Lamae Chumphon. We'll be diversified with our variety of Durian on the farm also.

I would say monthong has the biggest demand and market . I made the mistake of growing some other varieties that don't have the demand 😭

Thanks Don👍 the price is definitely up this year .Last year farmers in my area got UpTo 145 B per kilo this year it's 40 to 50 B higher

Well in Thailand they have been harvesting longer than that depending on your farms location .In my area we start harvesting in late may and after my location then south Thailand starts to harvest in August

This farm has 56 old trees on it 10 to 22 years old as for land size it's over 10000 square meters

Carbon Credits: Lets say you have 1,000 durian trees planted, 6 adult trees generates 1 carbon credit (1 ton of Co2 saved) a year and a carbon credit sells at $3-$5 a ton, then this means (1000/6*$5) = Carbon Credit Revenue of $833 a year for 1000 trees. If you get a sponsor (oil company or airline company) to fund the planting and the purchase of the small tree with a bit of PR then this is kinda free money for a bit of your time.

Durian Guru...farming is hard work. So buyers come in to cut and pick the durian. that is direct savings

hey man, I love your orchard and the provided information. I just started a durian farm in Vietnam last year, 3 more year to go. Based on your experience, what would be the profit yielded by a single durian tree?

Thank you That really depends on the age and size and the growing location .if you were to ask how much fruit a 6 to 7 year old tree can safely produce it's about 25 fruit . As the trees get older they can produce more once trees reach the age of 9 to 10 years old you can get safely 70 to 80 fruits .you keep more but it's hard on the trees . Keep in mind in most orchards only about 80 to 90 percent of trees will produce on average .most farmers I speak say this . As for my farm that's producing out of the 56 trees only 50 of them have fruit but next year they should produce and others then may not it's just the nature of the beast .

The weather definitely is not ideal . I hear from the buyers that many farmers lost everything and many other crops are off by 40 percent or more .
