A couple suggestions - San Marzano tomato variety is great for sauce and is prolific. Also I have found that Composted steer manure will help your tomatoes grow large and healthy with a small amount of Epsom salts added to the soil to thwart the blossom end rot . I have a lot of raccoons to deal with and I put a compost pile 100 feet from my garden and they do not bother the garden - its easier access and they do not even enter the garden area which has deer fencing.

Turnips are great for a fall garden .. they give you nice tasting greens as well as a nice bulb. Learn to save your seeds .. all of them that you can. IF things continue as they have been going .. a lot of seeds may be sold out.

Yeah seriously, everyone has decided to grow gardens (which is great!). I’m growing rutabaga in my other garden and I’m very excited for that!

Rabbits are my biggest pest (thankfully), but I wonder if an electric fence would deter the raccoons

Something has been getting my tomatoes also. I never thought about raccoons, and there's plenty of them around here. Just as you described, they get the ones almost ready to pick. Enjoy your vacation! : )

Lol same! I keep joking with my husband that it's nice we started a vegetable garden so all the local squirrels can have fresh produce.

I wouldn't just toss veggies like that, it can attract rodents and other unwanted pests. Best to put into your compost pile
@JewellsGardens4 жыл бұрын
Very true, I didn’t really think of that thanks! No wonder I have a problem with racoons...
