oh and as far as eggplant goes I always have issues with flea beetles and false potato beetles. the flea beetles aren't a huge issue production wise as long as the plant has everything else it needs. those are the ones that make the tiny holes all over the leaves. the false potato beetles are the ones (for me) that chew up entire leaves and cause real damage. I look for the unnaturally fat larvae as well as the eggs under the leaves! Overall I find my eggplant to be super productive as long as theyre taken care of here in CT!

Every yr ya learn something new. I took last yr off. This year of course more research. For chipmunks and your tomatoes putting garlic by them is good. Plus keeps the borers away from them. They don't like the smell. Many critters don't like garlic and onions. Your babies look really great! N yes pick some of that lettuce. I've noticed mine bolt go a wee yellow and then seed. The eggplant u mentioned I learned this yr think he used fish emulsion 5-1-1 and Epsom salt. Fertilizer for beans, peas, eggplant, cukes. I watch KaliKim (Cali) and Gary P. (Maryland) It's a long last name. Only use about 2-3x's during season. So I guess every month. Since u do have that yard. Maybe if u make a garden away from yours for them. Bunnies, chips, squirrels. We have wild strawberries throughout yard. They were coming, I looked yesterday..chippy ate well lol. They leave my garden alone bc I have 3 snakes 😄😄 They dont bother me. We acknowledge eachother. They usually look at me. Head up go from one end of garden. Shoot out the back, go by the river while I'm in and then come bk when I leave. Ur puppy so cute!!! Not sure if u have fruit trees. But many homesteaders swear by putting onions or garlic around bottom of tree. For disease I use the soap, baking soda, water. N the other is neem oil. Powdery mildew. Milk. Dont forget to spank ur tomatoes 😁😆 and hand pollinate. He also speaks of adding 1/2 tsp peppermint oil to gallon of water. For when ur cleaning squash (pinches bad leaves off). It gives off pheromone hence the squash bugs find the breakage. The peppermint oil drowns out the smell plus antibacterial antifungal. Def do a test to not burn ur leaves. But sounds promising for no squash bugs. I'm trying this yr. Stay well! Ty! Oh n carrots..onions keep carrot flies away 😉 I do companion and organic. I really want to get into permaculture. Being disabled it works bc everything feeds everything. Everything works together..its a natural environment and I have seen no disease in permaculture.

CJ D thanks for all of the advice! Yes I’ve spoken to Gary Pilarchik before, he’s super cool and about 30 min from me. I’m definitely going to try the garlic...these chipmunks are pissing me the hell off!

@@JewellsGardens oh yay! Yes he's awesome. That's who taught me soooo much. N I love watching her bc of the zone differences. This yr was horrible up here in Jersey. I finally got my squash in yesterday. Been baby'n 72 plants in house since April. Now they are calling for rain up here today till next Friday 🤦♀️ I feel it will be a battle with mildew if we get another wet season. Best of luck on those critters. Sucks they are so cute. But such terrors to gardeners.

Oh n this yr I added boiled crushed eggshells under two tomato plants. And under other 2 I added my iguanas powdered calcium supplement. So far growing great!

I’ve done that in years past with epsom salt but now I just use epsom salt and they seem to be growing well still

That baby eggplant is adorable! Your garden is beautiful. I'm jealous of those leafy greens. Very well rounded assortment.

I would declutter and add airflow for your tomato plants by snipping off the bottom leaves (the ones close to the ground or are touching the ground) before the rain starts. You reduce your chances of having blight (fungus in the dirt) splashing onto the leaves on your tomato plants and the fungus having enough material for a feeding frenzy. Garden beds are looking fantastic! I also have issues with chipmunks digging and deer eating my tomato plants.

Yeah I’ve cut all the leaves touching the ground but I can definitely prune more. I shouldn’t have pushed the spacing so much but I got greedy 😂

Hey Jewell! Quick question, not on topic to here but not sure how else to reach you lol. when you had your small mushroom op, did you ever figure exactly how much electricity you were using? My op is pretty close to the same size, and I thought I had my electric pretty well calculated. But the bill the last two months has been WAY higher for the house overall than my calculations really account for. Not sure if I got my calcs wrong or if the freakin 'rona just has us all using up extra electric in other parts of the house LMFAO. if you give me a ballpark of what you were using that'll help me figure how off I am. Hope all is well, glad to see ya back on here! :)

Oh my goodness I have zero recollection about that! Can’t even remember how much my bill was but I don’t think it was outrageous. So sorry I’m no help on this!

Lol! My only saving grace is it also backs into the wood line so there’s not much room for them to get a “running start” 😂

What is your insecticide recipe?

Farm Stories I use a 2 gallon sprayer and put about 2 or 3 tablespoons of neem with a big squirt of seventh generation dish soap and shake it well so they mix good
