Today we are going to be talking about the graph editor. Something that at times is very complex to grasp specially for up and coming animators.
I think all of you will eventually love it, you just need to have a few tips and tricks at your disposal in order to help you out.

A lot of people learning including myself struggle to lock in a good workflow or even find information about it, I definitely think you should try to do some longer videos around fundamentals explaining how you do your Extremes, in between action lines and such as I took me a while to grasp applying 2D animation to 3D from a book without a boring speaker or no visual aid as some people struggle from reading.

You are the guru of Graph Editor, Spaghetti Box! very useful like always. I’m rather interested in the MG plugin and the last one that’d be very helpful while working with Mocap files indeed. Do you retarget the mocap file in Mobu or you go straight working with retargeted animation in Maya ? I really love your channel man keep up the good work. You are like a mentor for us!

Hey Harvey, Thank you so much for your videos, appreciate the time you have put on this. If I may, wanted to ask you something, I'm just getting into animation using the standard Maya quick rig tool, and sometime I can't figure it out why my keys in the graph editor are not affecting the the model. I figured it's something with the IK, when I switch between, full body, body part and selection, I sometimes can find the right key in the editor, but it's messy and I don't know what I am doing most of the time, also it becomes a night mare when In trying to copy keys of just one of the controls in my rig to another control. Does any of your videos addresses that or would you know somewhere I could go get myself educated on these? Thank you so much, big fan of your content :)

thanks for the great stuff! If you don't mind I'd like to ask, how to deal with lagging in the graph editor, for example, I have really powerful workstation, but when I need to shift keyframes for the whole character - maya stucks for a couple of seconds, the more keyframes selected - the bigger delay occurs, its really frustrating, I don't know, perhaps MGTools should help, how do you think?
@harveynewman
@harveynewman 5 жыл бұрын
Umm interesting. Sounds like the problem might be with your rig/Maya setup. try to optimize your scene. If that doesn't work maybe try to reach out to Autodesk, they might be able to diagnose the problem a little better.
@MrGoodw1n
@MrGoodw1n 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah like Harvey mentioned making sure you have your scene optimized by unloading unnecessary assets and putting things on display layers helps. If the rig allows you can even put parts of the characters geo on display layers like torso, legs, and arms. Animbot also has a feature that allows you to pause camera playback when you are adjusting the curves. Once the adjustment is made you see the change snap into place. Might come in handy if your rig is super heavy.

@@harveynewman @cory goodwin, Thank you! I use free azri rig from game anim book and just simply keying all basic controls, now I realized that this selection set contains about 200 items ( all body controls + fingers + hair+ face + cloth + etc) I don't know, perhaps it might be worth creating another selection set with only the body controls and fix cloth and fingers issues after the blocking. Also, from what I've seen other rigs (like advanced skeleton) could be more laggy. Sometimes changing evaluating mode helps
