I'm a happy SSL 12 user. I do also have two WA73-EQ preamps so I kind of have the best of both worlds. But I love the I/O and simplicity of the SSL and I can't see myself longing for anything else for a long time.

I think the comparison with the flexibility is kind of not fair. Though the pro edge has the same 73 sound. It does have ADAT expand abilities to other device. Such as their Super 8 and OST 8. Now what I am interested in is a print of a mix bus back in to the preamps. Challenge accepted? 😅

I’m super happy with my SSL 12 interface. I’ve been using it to record the whole band rehearsal using additional external Behriger ADA8200 preamps and it sounds amazing! I’ve became a fan of 32bit recording also because of your suggestion 😊 I’m super interested to hear some more from Behringer. Have you had a chance to check check 369-KT bus compressor? It’s on my wish list 😊

The customisable switches (especially the monitor switching) on the SSL12 is the deciding factor for me when comparing against SSL2+mkii. Just in case you do not know, the SSL12 records in 32bits too, This info is not displayed prominently on the surface like the SSL2+mkii. The "never gets in your way" is a win for SSL12, you do not notice it's presence in the workflow so just think about working in the daw will do.

I wonder why there aren't any gut-shots of the i73. Some concerns: - How do 4 transformers fit in there crammed next to A/D and D/A conversion? - The correct Neve potentiometer is built up with resistors soldered all over the thing, and makes a real impact on the gain circuit(s). I wonder how they fit those in there, too. - A 12VDC (12 whoppin' volts, mate!) line-lump PSU for Neve preamps, eh? I'm open to whatever the deal is. Results are ultimately what matters, although this definitely sets off my "too good to be true" detector.

Thank you for your time...! After watching your SSL12 review, I decided to go with the newer SSL 2+ mkii, which has higher 32bit preamps and other functionalities of ssl12. Do you think when stacking up effects and plugins on the not so good preamps signals, the distortion and the flaws get exaggerated. I have a 2nd gen focusrite interface. But vocal processing doesnt sound smooth, no matter what mic or processing am i using.

Hey FYI, the SSL 12 does have 32-bit / 192 kHz AD/DA Converters. Also the SSL 12 is the only interface that interacts with SSL‘s 360 software. So if you’re planning on using any of the SSL controllers, the SSL 2 and 2+ do not communicate with the 360 software…and the 360 software is a beast.✌🏾

I've seriously been thinking about swapping my SSL 12 for the Edge but the price difference is far too big. If SSL could add some DSP or even a few VST slots to their interface it would be very comparable on spec, I think it's the one thing the SSL is missing. You have swayed me a little to stick with the SSL, and to be honest I've got quite attached to it. 😎

Trouble with low-cost "high end" clones is the build and corner-cutting to hit a target price-point. Taking one on is a real crapshoot without soldering skills, because the switches and pots are practically guaranteed to wear out faster in the cheaper gear. It's why it's cheaper to begin with.

SSL 12 combined with the 360 software that communicates with all the SSL controllers is a no brainer…everything gets out of your way and just works.

It definitely won’t be the converters, poor converters are honestly a thing of yesteryear. Maybe it’s the preamp in the i73?
