The word for the person who officiates at the wedding is the "officiant" and NOT the "efficient". The point of asking for objections was to determine if either party COULD NOT LEGALLY marry the other. Examples: one or the other was already married one of the other party was under-age the two parties were actually brother and sister [which CAN happen if both are adopted and not informed of their true familial connection] etc Alternatively, and more recently, one or the other party had either a felony conviction or was a fugitive (unknown to the other) or had a sexually transmitted disease.
