the game is still lacking everything, and for it being about $36 AUD, deffinitly NOT worth wasting money on a game that is taking way to long to be updated. I get it takes alot of time, but it should be like 12 dollars if that.

@@MamaTopy Tho it was Kickstarter trailer, and about what kind of game they aim to make _when it's fully finished_ and no promise that it had been that on early access. They should've made it more clear or delete the kickstarter trailer soon after the campaing closed, sure. But still believe that this common misunderstanding has caused most of the unrealisticly high expectations that many had for the early access.

The main thing I am impressed by is the fact that they appear to have added a texture that mimmicks fur with the lighting, which looks fantastic and the model of the horse also looks just amazing. However they still have a very long way to go in everything else, for example; lighting is far too harsh.

The reason there's such a drop and change is that they've basically had to restart. The main software that they had been working in got a huge update. They had to switch to the new stuff since the current one was basically going to become obsolete. The unfortunate part with having to change software, is that they couldn't really transfer any previous work over. I may be forgetting some specifics. The youtuber Rattle has done multiple videos on their progress.

That's a dumb excuse from them. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade from a previous Unity version if it's LTS as it's still supported years after the fact. Especially upgrading to a newer engine version when there's extensive breaking changes is never done on game projects that were already started unless there is a huge blocking issue that completely stops the development dead in its tracks (very rare occurence). No competent game developer does this. And even still, upgrading from Unity 2019 for example to 2022 does not require a complete remake of the game. They're just exploiting the fact that most people who support them don't know enough about game development to call them out on their excuses... people really need to stop wasting money on this, unless they want to be featured in another one of the many "Scam Kickstarter MMO" videos at some point in the future when the project gets abandoned 🙄

The whole thing was a year ago so I really didn't remember a whole lot of details, So here's some corrections; the trailer was simply a proof of concept, technically it was a game but it didn't actually work well, exact quote from statement; "the programming of what was already been made was simply not viable" After the trailer and such, they joined an actual company(Green horse). To prevent tech-debt later on they started basically from scratch. Then Unity added a major framework update way before expected, meaning they had to rework a lot of stuff to fit the new framework. Basically, they had to restart development twice in the span of 6 months(with one programmer at the time). They only released so early to fit with a contract with the government for funding. Initially they had a smaller game in mind. They wanted to wait another year before releasing it on steam but that wasn't an option with the contract. They meant to be more clear on the state of the game when it was released but they didn't do that well enough(they admitted that themselves). TLDR; the game that the trailer showed didn't actually work very well and needed remade. Then a multiple things, joining a new company, the Unity engine changing it's framework way earlier than expected, severely affected their programming progress. They only released such a barebones game to comply with a contract for funding. This is the youtuber Rattle's video about the whole event. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHyni6WFl558n7Msi=kHM7tWn4BaEB26Q9

They put so much work into the animations (from the horse) but the rest of the game is really, really ... ugly, raw and just not suiting at all in my opinion. Tack/ Character and such have this glossy texture that i really dislike. Saddle is implemented but has a plain black overlay, no stiching, no stirrups, no details at all. You get what i mean? It literally looks like its been roughly marked out what to make but in like a placeholder mesh and texture.

Astride is still at very early stage and work in progress and it will be fully done after several years. Please note it's done by very small team as well and the government funding has been partly forcing them to release some features in faster pace they wanted. The kickstarter trailer wasn't that different looking imo but it wasn't a game, it was old code and made for applying the government funding back then. Oh, and you passed the Horse creator from the main menu, there you can make your horse. And also you had the controls in the Esc menu in the game. If that helps 😊

Yes, they are a small company, I don't think they should have released this game so early unfortunately. And unfortunately for them as well because they released this game in this state the actual reviews on steam will stay negative for a long time now which might make them struggle in the long run :( YES THAT IS SO HELPGFULLL
@littlehufflepuff97905 ай бұрын
@@MamaTopy Yeah, agreed and they also didn't wanna release that early. If it had been up to them they had waited at least for one more year, but to get the goverment funding they were forced to release it early. But I'm sure the reviews will get better over time. It will also still take years for the game to be fully done, maybe better if it makes ppl read the infos and devlogs a bit better when they don't see only positives, so could maybe read and make their own mind then :)

I think the saddest part is that games nowadays HAVE to be this beautiful in order for anyone to play it. That severely limits who can even make a game, and many people who have brilliant ideas just don't have the means to turn them into anything, whereas people who are just artists but don't show to make a genuinely engaging game, get the opportunity to waste all of our time with games that look gorgeous and enticing, but become boring very quickly. I'd rather have a game with visuals from 15 years ago and INTERESTING gameplay, than 100 of these games that are JUST aimlessly riding around and nothing else.

And that is why ranch of rivershine is plugging along at a good pace but hyper realistic horse games struggle hard. Rivershine may not have the most glamorous horse animations but it is a game a small team can feasibly make and it has been getting consistent updates.
