Carnival Venezia Review - Likes & Dislikes
Port of New York
Likes - Beautiful skyline and unforgettable sail away experience
Dislikes - Expensive - @$100 each way to and from JFK airport + hotel in midtown Manhattan
Ship
Likes - Ship is BEAUTIFUL! We love the Venetian design and theming
Dislikes - some areas were small and could get congested mainly the mid-ship Lido pool area. Pool is small and there are always very long lines for Guy’s Burger Joint and Tomodoro. Serenity also would fill up and we couldn’t find an available lounger or table.
Food - overall the food was good
Likes - the Italian style ‘pepperoni pizza burger’ at Guy’s Burger Joint was surprisingly good. Bonsai Sushi was delicious as always - this is consistent across all Carnival ships. Our meal at Il Viaggio was delicious!!
Dislikes - buffet was just ok… it is very hit and misses. Some items were good and some were not. We did not eat in the main dining room during the sailing but did during the launch party. The food was ok in here as well and we were told by other passengers that the service was slow during the sailing. theming in the Guy’s Burger Joint area was off we were missing the bright colors.
Fun Factor
Likes - Cruise director MarQ and his Fun Squad did a good job of bringing the excitement and there was a lot happening around the ship to choose from.
Dislikes - I feel the sail away party could have lasted longer since it is such a long distance leaving NYC to open waters. We heard from several that they did not like the sail away party being on the aft pool deck as it is traditionally mid-ship but that space was not big enough.
Entertainment
Likes - Stage shows were great! We saw ‘Color My World’ & ‘Vintage Pop’ and both were very good! Much of the live entertainment was very good and we loved that there was 2 hours of karaoke every night. The comedy show we watched had us crying laughing!
Dislikes - not a lot going on during the day
Space on the ship
Likes - in the evening there was a lot going on and everyone was spread out and it never felt crowded
Dislikes - during the day, with everyone around the pools and outdoor decks, it was very crowded. The pools and hot tubs were too full ( not enough of them) to get in unless you wanted to be touching a stranger. And it was very hard to impossible to find a lounger near either pool or at Serenity. There are not enough pools and hot tubs.
Crowd/Passengers
Likes - 99% of the passengers were great! We met some very lovely people and had great conversations with many.
Dislikes - the ship was VERY full! Over 4600 passengers when the ship’s full capacity is 4000 at double occupancy. This made certain areas not as enjoyable (like the pools) and hard to find seats (like Serenity). Also… there were some unruly passengers and un-parented kids. I am not sure why some people seem to go crazy on a cruise? We saw a couple screaming at each other (very intoxicated) at guest services, another so intoxicated at karaoke that he couldn’t follow along and started swearing… with kids around. We heard a fist fight broke out but we did not witness that. The smell of weed was around the ship, even with a K-9 unit onboard. And unsupervised kids rand down the halls, kicked over food left outside the doors, yelled and screamed and even banged on our cabin door at 2am! This unruly behavior is not something we have experienced.
